Carla Vernón became CEO of The Honest Company on January 9, 2023, after the company announced her appointment the previous month. She brought senior consumer-products experience from Amazon and General Mills. Honest described her as “one of the only Afro-Latina CEOs at a U.S. publicly traded company”; that is the company’s characterization, not an independently verified industry count.
Who is Honest Company CEO Carla Vernón?
Vernón is a consumer-products executive who took over the top job at The Honest Company in January 2023. Before joining Honest, she led consumables categories at Amazon and held leadership roles at General Mills for more than two decades.
Honest’s current executive biography says her Amazon role included full profit-and-loss responsibility and leadership across supply chain and technology for Everyday Essentials. The company’s 2022 appointment announcement described her as Amazon’s vice president of consumables categories, overseeing areas including baby care, household products, food, beverages, health and wellness, and beauty. Before Amazon, she spent more than 20 years in General Mills leadership, including leading its Natural and Organic business.
Her biography lists an A.B. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Texas. It also lists board service at Hasbro and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino.

When did Vernón become CEO, and who did she succeed?
Honest announced Vernón’s appointment on December 13, 2022, and said it would take effect January 9, 2023. She succeeded Nick Vlahos, who had led the company for nearly six years. Vlahos stepped away from day-to-day operations but remained on Honest’s board, according to the announcement.
Founder Jessica Alba and board chair James D. White praised Vernón’s consumer-products leadership and growth experience in the announcement. Those comments reflect the company’s stated reasons for the appointment; they are not evidence by themselves of future business results.

Why did Honest call the appointment significant?
Honest framed Vernón’s appointment as a milestone in representation, describing her as “one of the only Afro-Latina CEOs at a U.S. publicly traded company.” In the company announcement, Vernón said: “As I take my seat at the table as a woman, a mom, and one of the only Afro-Latina CEOs of a U.S. public company, there are so many people and experiences that come with me.”
The wording matters: Honest and Vernón made an attributed representation claim, but the available company materials do not provide a count or methodology for Afro-Latina CEOs at U.S. public companies. They therefore do not establish that she was the first or independently quantify how rare the role was.

What does Honest’s recent performance show?
In its Q2 2026 results, published August 5, 2026, Honest reported $83.3 million in revenue for the quarter ended June 30, down 10.9% from the prior-year quarter. Organic revenue grew 6.7%. The figures describe one quarter, not a full-year result or a run rate.
The company attributed the revenue decline partly to strategic exits under its “Powering Honest Growth” program and lower diaper revenue. Growth in wipes and personal care partly offset those effects. Honest also reported a gross margin of 48.4%, up 800 basis points year over year, net income of $10.7 million, and cash and cash equivalents of $105.9 million at June 30, 2026. These are company-reported figures.

Honest said it sells products through Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Its recent results offer business context for Vernón’s tenure, but one quarter cannot establish whether a leadership appointment caused a particular financial outcome. The company’s news-release archive is the place to check for subsequent reported results.
