A separate group led by James Bord had been the preferred bidder earlier in the process, but withdrew and did not buy the club.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
The successful buyer was Arise Capital Partners LLC. The EFL confirmed on 2 May 2026 that the administrators had agreed to transfer the club’s assets to Arise and that Sheffield Wednesday met the League’s requirements to leave administration. The joint administrators’ firm, BTG, confirmed the sale’s completion on 5 May 2026.

The club named David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin when it announced on 10 March that Arise had become the new preferred bidder. At that stage, the club said Arise had supplied a deposit and evidence of funds and entered an exclusivity agreement. The EFL and BTG later identified the same three people as members of the successful consortium.
Who was linked to the earlier bid?
James Bord, Felix Romer and Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil were linked to an earlier preferred-bidder consortium. BBC Sport reported that the Bord-led group withdrew on 25 February 2026. It was not the group that completed the takeover.

#1 Best Overall
- James Bord: led the earlier preferred-bidder group.
- Felix Romer: reported as a member of that group.
- Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil: described by BBC Sport as the group’s chief executive.
That distinction explains why reports from different stages of the sale may name different prospective buyers. The Bord group was associated with an earlier phase; Arise was selected after it withdrew and completed the transaction.

Who was not a member of the successful buying group?
Dejphon Chansiri was the former owner, not a member of Arise. The completed sale ended his ownership. Kris Wigfield, BTG Managing Partner and Joint Administrator, announced the administrators’ confirmation of the sale; he was not a buyer.
Public announcements identify the named Arise members, but they do not establish an exhaustive list of private advisers, lenders or other participants. It would therefore be inaccurate to present a complete behind-the-scenes roster or to infer unreported backers.
What did the EFL confirm about administration and points?
The EFL said Sheffield Wednesday met League requirements and was no longer regarded as in administration after the asset transfer. It also said its board used discretion under its Insolvency Policy not to impose an additional 15-point deduction upon exit. The EFL attributed that decision to proposals made to Chansiri by the administrators and new ownership.

Those records concern the company’s administration process; their existence does not overturn the EFL’s confirmation that the club met the requirements to exit administration after the transfer.
The EFL’s governance guidance says acquisitions of control are subject to League requirements. Its guidance also notes that a new IFR owners, directors and senior executives regime applies to relevant appointments from 5 May 2026. That regulatory background is separate from evidence of the May sale itself.
