Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete, not still a contest between frontrunners. Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by American executive David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin, acquired the club in May 2026. The English Football League (EFL) confirmed the club had met league requirements and left administration.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
The buyer was Arise Capital Partners LLC. In its 2 May 2026 statement, the EFL said the consortium was led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The joint administrators, BTG, later confirmed on 5 May that the sale had completed.
BBC Sport described Storch as an American executive with a background in aviation services. Its 2 May report said the purchase ended Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership.
How the takeover process changed
| Date and source | Bidder or development | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| 6 January 2026 — BBC Sport | A consortium led by James Bord and Felix Romer, with Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil described as its CEO | Reported as the preferred bidder at that stage; it was not the eventual buyer. |
| 2 May 2026 — EFL | Agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin | The EFL said the club met league requirements and was no longer in administration. |
| 5 May 2026 — BTG | Sale to Arise Capital Partners completed | Administrators confirmed the transfer was complete. |
The January preferred-bidder report and the May sale describe different stages of the process. Bord’s consortium should not be confused with the consortium that completed the purchase.

What the EFL said about administration and points
After the ownership change, the EFL said Sheffield Wednesday had met the relevant league requirements and was no longer regarded as being in administration. It also said its board would not impose a 15-point deduction following the club’s exit from administration. That figure refers to the specific sanctions decision announced by the EFL, not a general points rule.
What is not established about the deal
The cited announcements do not state the purchase price, financing structure, or detailed future investment commitments. Those terms should not be inferred from the identities of the consortium members or from the fact that the transaction completed.
