Scopely bought Niantic’s games business, including Pokémon GO, and completed the acquisition on May 29, 2025. Savvy Games Group announced the transaction at a value of $3.5 billion. Niantic’s geospatial technology business was separated into Niantic Spatial rather than included with the games portfolio.
Who bought Pokémon GO, and did the sale close?
Scopely acquired Niantic’s games business. The companies announced an agreement on March 12, 2025, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Savvy Games Group announced that the acquisition was complete on May 29, 2025. Scopely’s transaction page also records the closing update.

The announced transaction value was $3.5 billion, according to Savvy Games Group. That is the value of the overall acquisition, not a disclosed price for Pokémon GO individually.

That means Pokémon GO was part of the business Scopely acquired; Niantic did not merely announce a possible sale that remains pending.
What stayed with Niantic Spatial?
Niantic’s March 2025 announcement described a separate geospatial business, Niantic Spatial, focused on geospatial AI and augmented-reality software. The announcement said Niantic Spatial would continue to own and operate Ingress Prime and Peridot. These were part of the planned separation, not the games portfolio listed in Scopely’s completion announcement.

Who owns Scopely?
Scopely is wholly owned by Savvy Games Group, which identifies Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund as its shareholder. Savvy acquired Scopely in 2023. Reuters reported the Niantic transaction in the context of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to grow its games sector; that context does not, by itself, establish why Niantic agreed to sell. Reuters also reported that Niantic had laid off employees in 2022 and 2023 and discontinued Harry Potter: Wizards Unite in 2022.
What did the companies say the business was worth?
In its March 12, 2025 announcement, Savvy reported that the games and apps involved had more than 30 million monthly active players and generated more than $1 billion in revenue in 2024. Savvy also said Pokémon GO had more than 100 million unique players in 2024 and that the franchise had generated more than $8 billion in lifetime revenue. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited figures in the cited announcements, and they should not be confused with the acquisition price for any one title.

Reuters reported that the transaction also included more than $350 million in additional distribution to Niantic equity holders. It reported a planned $250 million in capital for Niantic Spatial: $200 million from Niantic’s balance sheet and $50 million from Scopely. Those figures describe transaction-related distributions and planned funding, not separate purchase prices for the games.

Scopely’s 2026 retrospective said its integration priorities included preserving creative autonomy, aligning cultures, retaining talent, maintaining product continuity and supporting long-term live services. That is Scopely’s description of its approach, not independent confirmation that every goal has been achieved. The cited transaction announcements establish who owns the listed games and services; they do not independently establish later product performance or guarantee that any feature, event or operating plan will remain unchanged.
