GameStop Corp.’s Form 10-Q independently confirms that it completed the sale during fiscal 2025’s second quarter. The filing says the proceeds and related loss were immaterial to GameStop’s financial statements, but it does not state the transaction price. Is GameStop Canada changing back to EB Games?
Yes: the buyer’s May 2025 announcement said the retailer would relaunch under the EB Games Canada brand. That is an announced brand direction, not proof that every store and the online business had completed the change by a particular date. The name change reverses a previous transition. On July 28, 2021, GameStop Corp. said EB Games’ Canadian locations and online store would adopt the GameStop name by the end of that year, citing customer and stockholder feedback. The 2021 announcement documents that earlier change; it does not alter the fact that the 2025 transaction involved the Canadian operating subsidiary.
What happened to EB Games Canada?
EB Games Canada became GameStop Canada after the 2021 brand transition. In 2025, after the Canadian operating company was sold, its buyer announced a return to the EB Games Canada name. The company described itself in the May 2025 release as having more than 185 stores across Canada; that is a company-provided figure from the announcement, not an independently verified current count.
