China Huaxin bought 85% of Alcatel-Lucent’s Enterprise business, now known as Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. The sale closed on September 30, 2014, for reported cash proceeds of €205 million. Alcatel-Lucent retained the other 15% and a business relationship with the company.
Who bought Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise?
The buyer was China Huaxin, a technology investment company. Alcatel-Lucent announced on February 6, 2014 that it had received a binding offer and entered exclusive discussions with China Huaxin. That announcement began the transaction process; it was not the closing date.
The sale was completed on September 30, 2014. Nokia’s prospectus records that Alcatel-Lucent disposed of 85% of its Enterprise business to China Huaxin on that date. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing also confirms the closing and percentage.
How much did China Huaxin pay?
The figures differ because the announcement’s valuation and the closing proceeds describe different things.

| Figure | What it means |
|---|---|
| €268 million | Enterprise value for the contemplated transaction, stated on a cash-free, debt-free basis in Alcatel-Lucent’s annual-report filing. |
| Estimated €237 million | Estimated equity value for 100% of the business at announcement, according to the same filing. |
| €205 million | Cash proceeds reported for the disposal of 85% when the transaction closed, according to Nokia’s prospectus. |
The €205 million closing figure is the reported cash proceeds for the 85% stake, not the announced enterprise value or the estimated equity value for all of the business. The available figures should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
Did Alcatel-Lucent sell the entire Enterprise division?
No. China Huaxin acquired 85%, while Alcatel-Lucent retained 15% in the newly created French holding company. The retained stake meant Alcatel-Lucent did not transfer full ownership at closing.

- Super wideband audio quality

The companies also maintained a commercial connection: Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise continued working with Alcatel-Lucent under a privileged business relationship. The sale therefore changed ownership without ending their business ties.

Alcatel-Lucent presented the transferred Enterprise business as discontinued operations in its financial statements and re-presented comparative periods accordingly. This accounting treatment separated the divested business from continuing operations; it does not change the transaction’s September 2014 closing date.

A later China-related development was separate from the Enterprise sale: Nokia and China Huaxin closed the creation of Nokia Shanghai Bell on July 3, 2017, combining Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell with Nokia’s China business. That was a subsequent corporate arrangement, not the 2014 transfer of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.
