That is the list’s figure in euros—not the £3.2 million in the older headline—and it is a reported salary estimate, not confirmed take-home pay.
Who is the highest-paid player in the Saudi Pro League?
In The National’s ranking published August 25, 2026, Ronaldo is first at an estimated €4 million per week for Al Nassr. Karim Benzema of Al Hilal is second at €2.3 million. The list is for the 2026/27 season and reports weekly estimates in euros; it does not provide a dated exchange rate for converting them to pounds.
The National says it compiled the estimates from Capology, SalaryLeaks and media reports. They are not disclosed contract figures or an audited register. Its article does not specify whether the estimates consistently include bonuses, image rights, taxes or other compensation, so they should not be read as a like-for-like measure of net pay.

How does the 2026/27 list differ from 2025/26?
The earlier-season ranking helps explain why a player’s position or estimate may differ between lists. The National’s 2025/26 list, published August 20, 2025 and updated August 3, 2026, also placed Ronaldo first at €4 million a week. It listed Riyad Mahrez at €1 million, Benzema at €960,000, Mane at €769,000 and Toney at €490,000. Kante, Milinkovic-Savic and Mitrovic were jointly listed at €480,000, followed by Laporte, Brozovic and Darwin Nunez. The article noted that estimates for Koulibaly ranged from €480,000 to €667,000 a week.
In the newer ranking Benzema is second at €2.3 million, while Mahrez does not appear in the top 20. These are rankings for different seasons, built from estimates; the change alone does not establish an audited salary rise or fall for any player.

A weekly estimate is useful for comparing players within the same published list, but it is not necessarily a full account of a player’s earnings. The two National rankings do not explain a consistent treatment of bonuses, image rights, tax or net pay. Nor should weekly salary estimates be compared directly with annual earnings totals or endorsement income as if they measured the same thing.

The wider league context is distinct from the salary estimates. The Associated Press reported in August 2025 that Ronaldo joined the Saudi Pro League in December 2022, followed by high-profile signings including Benzema, Neymar and Mahrez. AP described Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal and Al Ahli as the “Big Four” clubs taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in 2023.
In that AP report, league chief commercial officer Wael Al Fayez said the league reached 180 countries worldwide in the prior season, up from 150 the year before; that international sponsorship deals had risen 200%; and that social following grew from 11 million to 15 million, with engagement up 60%. These are statements attributed to the league official, not independently audited measures in the report. Simon Chadwick, a professor of Afro-Eurasian Sport at Emlyon Business School in Paris, told AP that Ronaldo had helped raise global awareness of Saudi football, while saying the league needed greater depth and more sustainable engagement with fans.
