It was Silver Airways LLC, but the phrase “0 bids at its bankruptcy auction” is misleading: Silver’s CEO said no qualified competing bids arrived by the deadline, so no auction was held. Silver later ceased all operations on June 11, 2025.

Did Silver Airways actually hold an auction?

No. In an affidavit quoted by TheStreet, CEO Steve Rossum said: “No qualified bids were received by the bid deadline for Silver’s assets and no auction was held.” The accurate description is a failed sale process with no qualified competing offer—not an auction where bidders showed up and bid zero.

Silver had a $5,775,000 stalking-horse credit bid as the baseline offer. A stalking-horse bid is an initial offer used to establish a starting point for a sale process; in this case, the amount was to be credited against what Silver owed under its debtor-in-possession financing facility. The company’s May 2, 2025 motion in its Chapter 11 case sought bids for substantially all of its assets and said a sale was urgently needed to preserve the business’s going-concern value. The filing is in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division, case 24-23623-PDR. Read the court motion.

WLRN reported that no one made a better offer than the stalking-horse bid, which it rounded to $5.7 million. TheStreet described it as $5.77 million and reported that no higher offer arrived by the June 4 deadline. These are rounded media descriptions of the $5,775,000 figure in the court motion, not separate bids. WLRN’s account

What did the court say about the sale?

TheStreet quoted Bankruptcy Judge Peter D. Russin: “It is not lost on the court that the debtors borrowed collectively several hundred million dollars, yet the contemplated asset sale values total at present less than $10 million.” The judge’s statement compares the debtors’ collective borrowing, described qualitatively as “several hundred million,” with contemplated asset-sale values at that point. It is not an audited total of Silver’s debts or a final accounting of sale proceeds. TheStreet’s report

Was Seaborne included in Silver’s sale?

No. Silver’s May 2 motion described Seaborne Virgin Islands, Inc. as a wholly owned subsidiary with its own Part 121 certificate, but expressly excluded Seaborne’s stock and assets from the Silver sale transaction proposed in that filing. The two companies and their sale processes should not be conflated. The court motion

What happened to Silver Airways afterward?

Silver announced that it was shutting down on June 11, 2025, after its Chapter 11 asset sale. Its website says it ceased all operations and canceled its remaining schedules that day. The company’s contemporaneous notice warned, “Please do not go to the airport,” and said passengers could seek refunds through their card issuer or travel agency. That was general guidance, not a guarantee that any individual refund claim would be approved. Associated Press coverage · Silver Airways notice

The Associated Press reported that, by the shutdown, Silver’s fleet had fallen to eight ATR turboprop aircraft and its workforce to 348 from 608, attributing those figures to the company. The AP also noted that Silver had served 28 destinations at an earlier point in its history and that Seaborne would continue operating in the Caribbean at the time. These are dated facts from 2025, not descriptions of current airline operations. Associated Press coverage
