In CoinDesk’s Oct. 6, 2026 market snapshot, smaller tokens posted sharp but uneven gains while bitcoin traded near $85,900. Bitway’s BTW led the reported advances, while Filecoin’s FIL, LayerZero’s ZRO and Midnight’s NIGHT also rose. Other tokens fell, so the moves did not amount to a market-wide altcoin rally.

Which smaller altcoins rose?

CoinDesk’s Oct. 6 report described the following price changes over short, specified windows. These are the report’s figures for that date, not current prices; the report’s market data has not been independently verified here.

Token Reported change Period and context
Bitway (BTW) +25%; +170% 24 hours; 30 days
Filecoin (FIL) +12%; at least +50% 24 hours; at least 50% over four weeks
LayerZero (ZRO) +10%; at least +50% 24 hours; at least 50% over four weeks
Midnight (NIGHT) +8% 24 hours

CoinDesk also named SKY, VVV and DASH among the weakest performers within the 100 largest tokens by market value. That divergence matters: a few large percentage gains do not show that smaller tokens as a group were rising.

What was bitcoin doing?

The report put bitcoin near $85,900 at publication after it had traded near $85,000 earlier that day. Both prices are Oct. 6, 2026 snapshots reported by CoinDesk, not live quotations. The report characterized bitcoin and other major assets as range-bound during that market window.

What did the derivatives figures show?

CoinDesk reported bitcoin open interest of about $21.9 billion, down from $22.0 billion previously. Funding rates across venues were broadly 0–5% annualized, compared with a prior range of 4–10%; the three-month annualized basis was 5–6%. The report also gave a 24-hour options put/call volume ratio of 62/38 in favor of calls and a one-week 25-delta skew of approximately -2%.

CoinDesk, citing CoinGlass, reported $163 million in liquidations over 24 hours. It described a 63/27 split between long and short liquidations, without accounting for the remaining share, so that split should not be read as a complete breakdown. The report listed liquidation notionals of $51 million for BTC, $21 million for other assets and $19 million for ETH.

Why did BTW rise?

CoinDesk noted that Binance Wallet’s “Booster Season 5” campaign ended Oct. 2 and offered rewards for deposits. The report suggested the promotion may have contributed to retail engagement around BTW, but did not establish that it caused the token’s gains.

How to interpret the price moves

Daily and monthly percentage changes describe what happened during selected windows; by themselves, they do not establish why a token moved or whether the move will continue. The CoinDesk report does not verify token supply, liquidity, or the persistence of the rally. Its short-window figures should therefore be treated as dated market reporting, not as evidence of an asset’s quality or suitability for an investor.

Analyst Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at TheFxPro, framed bitcoin’s downside levels as conditional: “A break below $84K would signal a victory for the bears, and a break below the recent local lows at $83K would confirm this with even greater certainty.” He said $80,000 could be a possible destination if those levels broke. This was his analysis, not a forecast with a guaranteed outcome.
