Mitsubishi Motors North America sold 94,754 vehicles in the United States in calendar 2025, down 13.7% from 109,843 in 2024—not a company-wide sales spike. The picture varied by model: the Outlander remained the volume leader, while Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport posted the strongest gains. Outlander PHEV sales slipped, and Mirage sales fell sharply as the nameplate reached its end.
How Mitsubishi’s U.S. sales changed in 2025
Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) reported 94,754 U.S. vehicle sales for January through December 2025, compared with 109,843 in calendar 2024, a decline of about 13.7%. The company’s fourth-quarter total also fell: 21,354 vehicles versus 27,125 in Q4 2024. These are U.S. sales figures, not global production or export totals. MMNA’s January 5, 2026 sales release provides the annual and quarterly results.
U.S. sales by Mitsubishi model
The table compares MMNA-reported calendar-year U.S. sales. “Outlander” and “Outlander Sport” are separate nameplates; the Sport’s sales are not included in the Outlander row.
| Model | 2025 U.S. sales | 2024 U.S. sales | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outlander | 35,895 | 45,253 | Down about 20.7% |
| Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) | 6,294 | 6,975 | Down about 9.8% |
| Eclipse Cross | 17,508 | 12,724 | Up nearly 38% |
| Mirage | 14,577 | 29,766 | Down about 51.0% |
| Outlander Sport | 20,480 | 15,125 | Up 35.4% |
| Total | 94,754 | 109,843 | Down about 13.7% |
Which Mitsubishi models were strongest?
Outlander led in sales volume
The standard Outlander sold 35,895 units, more than any other Mitsubishi nameplate in the U.S. in 2025. It accounted for more than one-third of MMNA’s reported total, even after sales declined about 20.7% from 2024. Volume leadership means it sold the most units; it does not mean it had the fastest growth.

Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport led in growth
Eclipse Cross sales rose nearly 38% to 17,508, making 2025 its second-best full year, according to MMNA. Its 5,166 fourth-quarter sales were 103% higher than in Q4 2024. Outlander Sport sales increased 35.4% to 20,480, its best full year since 2021 according to the company. Those gains stand out against the decline in Mitsubishi’s overall U.S. total.
Outlander PHEV sales declined despite a strong historical year
The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid sold 6,294 units in the U.S., down from 6,975 in 2024, a decrease of about 9.8%. MMNA nevertheless described 2025 as its third-best full year since the model launched in 2017. That historical ranking does not mean sales grew year over year.

Mirage’s fall coincided with its discontinuation
Mirage sales dropped about 51% to 14,577. In its January 5, 2026 release, MMNA said discontinuation of the Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan in a rapidly shrinking segment drove the brand’s year-over-year drop. The company did not quantify how much of the decline was attributable to discontinuation. In Q4, Mirage sales were 1,094, compared with 9,742 in Q4 2024.
Why Canada’s results tell a different story
Canadian sales should be kept separate from MMNA’s U.S. figures. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada reported 37,335 vehicle sales in calendar 2025, down 4.1% from 38,921. In Canada, Outlander sales rose 40.9% to 12,688, and Eclipse Cross sales rose 12.1% to 5,930. The Outlander PHEV fell 37.7% to 8,899, although the Canadian company said it remained the country’s best-selling plug-in hybrid for the third consecutive year. Mirage sold 1,776 as it reached the end of its lifecycle there. These figures and the Canadian company’s category claim appear in its January 8, 2026 release; the “best-selling” claim applies to Canada’s plug-in hybrid category, not to U.S. sales or all vehicle types.

What the sales figures can—and cannot—show
Units sold and year-over-year changes show which nameplates gained or lost volume, but they do not establish profitability, transaction prices, incentives, inventory levels, or market share. MMNA’s release also cites shopper-conversion percentages attributed to Ipsos NVCS: 96% for compact CUV owners who shopped for an Outlander, 94% for subcompact CUV owners who shopped for an Eclipse Cross, and 92% for plug-in hybrid owners who shopped for an Outlander PHEV. MMNA does not state the study year or methodology, so those figures should not be read as independently verified, current market-wide purchase rates.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation separately reported 121,528 North America exports in 2025, up 11.4% year over year. That is an export measure from the global company, not U.S. retail sales reported by MMNA; it should not be used to describe a U.S. sales increase. See the corporation’s January 29, 2026 production, sales and export release.
