James Bord is publicly associated with stakes or ownership interests in Dunfermline Athletic, Córdoba CF and Septemvri Sofia. Girondins de Bordeaux is a fourth potential addition: on 30 September 2026, the French club announced a transfer agreement with Park Bench, the investment vehicle associated with Bord, for a symbolic €1 with debts assumed. The club said the buyers still had to be heard by a regional financial-control commission. Sheffield Wednesday is not a Bord holding: his consortium withdrew its bid in February, and the club’s assets transferred to Arise Capital Partners in May.
Which clubs is James Bord associated with?
The reported interests differ in type and status. Park Bench is reported as Dunfermline Athletic’s majority owner, while its stakes in Córdoba CF and Bord’s interest in Septemvri Sofia are described less specifically. Bordeaux announced an agreement, but its statement described a further step in the legal process.
| Club | Country | Reported involvement and status |
|---|---|---|
| Dunfermline Athletic | Scotland | Bord and Park Bench are associated with the club; Reuters describes Park Bench as majority owner. BBC and The Guardian also identify Bord as an owner or co-owner. |
| Córdoba CF | Spain | Park Bench is reported to hold shares, and BBC and The Guardian describe Bord as having a stake. A percentage is not stated in the cited coverage. |
| Septemvri Sofia | Bulgaria | Bord is reported to have an interest or stake. The cited coverage does not specify a percentage or establish the precise investment vehicle. |
| Girondins de Bordeaux | France | The club announced a transfer agreement with Park Bench on 30 September 2026. The announcement described a forthcoming hearing as part of the legal process, so the agreement should not be presented as a completed acquisition without confirmation of a later approval. |
| Sheffield Wednesday | England | Not a Bord holding. His consortium withdrew its bid in February 2026; the EFL confirmed the transfer of the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners on 2 May. |
What is the Bordeaux takeover twist?
On 30 September 2026, Girondins de Bordeaux announced that the current owner’s company had signed a transfer agreement with Park Bench. The club said the transaction was for a symbolic €1, with debts assumed. Reuters also reported the agreement and identified Bord as a Park Bench holder.
The €1 figure is the agreement price described in the club’s announcement; it is not evidence that every regulatory or legal step was complete. The club said the buyers would be heard in the coming days by the Regional Management Control Commission of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Football League as part of the legal takeover procedure. Accordingly, Bordeaux is best described as subject to an announced transfer agreement unless a later approval or completion is confirmed.

The development is notable because it follows Bord’s unsuccessful attempt to buy Sheffield Wednesday. It does not mean that Bord acquired Wednesday or that Bordeaux’s process was already finished.
Why is Sheffield Wednesday sometimes linked to Bord?
Bord’s consortium was selected as Sheffield Wednesday’s preferred bidder in December 2025, but preferred-bidder status was not a completed purchase. The process still involved funding checks and the EFL owners’ and directors’ test. The Guardian reported in January 2026 that funding checks were ongoing; BBC Sport reported the consortium’s withdrawal on 25 February.

Wednesday then moved to a different buyer. After the club announced Arise as preferred bidder in March, the EFL confirmed on 2 May 2026 that administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC to transfer the club’s assets and place Wednesday under new ownership. The EFL identified the consortium as led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin.
This sequence explains why older articles may list Wednesday among Bord’s prospective acquisitions. It was a bid, not a lasting stake.

How to read the ownership claims
- Majority ownership: Reuters describes Park Bench as Dunfermline’s majority owner; Bord is associated with the club through Park Bench.
- Reported stakes or interests: Coverage identifies a Park Bench stake in Córdoba and a Bord interest in Septemvri Sofia, but does not establish percentages in the cited material.
- Agreement awaiting stated process: Bordeaux announced a transfer agreement with Park Bench and a subsequent regional commission hearing. Do not equate the announcement with confirmed completion.
- Withdrawn bid: Wednesday belongs in the account of Bord’s takeover attempts, not in a list of his clubs.
Football ownership can change quickly. The Bordeaux club announcement and subsequent approval status are especially important to check when describing the portfolio.
