Which cruise ships changed course for Hurricane Melissa?
Carnival’s newsroom update, first posted October 27 and revised October 31, 2025, documented the following changes. “Cancelled” means the listed port call was dropped; “replaced” means Carnival named an alternative destination.

Carnival said its Fleet Operations Center in Miami monitored forecasts and considered guidance from the National Hurricane Center, the U.S. Coast Guard and local port authorities. What did Category 5 mean in the October 28 update?
The National Hurricane Center’s October 28, 2025 intermediate advisory described Melissa as Category 5, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph as the storm crossed western Jamaica. In a retrospective forecast-performance preview, the NHC said Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane and that NHC forecasts gave nearly three days of advance notice that it would reach Category 5 intensity. Why can a cruise itinerary change when a hurricane threatens?
A ship’s itinerary may be adjusted to avoid a storm or affected areas; a scheduled port call can be cancelled or substituted. Royal Caribbean’s general hurricane guidance says it monitors tropical systems, tries to avoid operating ships in their vicinity, and may alter an itinerary if it sees a potential threat to guests or ships. How can passengers check whether their sailing changed?
Use direct communications from the cruise line operating your sailing. In its October 2025 notice, Carnival asked guests on upcoming sailings to opt into alerts in Cruise Manager and monitor their email. Royal Caribbean directs guests to its official travel updates page for itinerary and weather impacts.
- Check the cruise line’s official sailing alerts. Look in the cruise account or app associated with your booking, including Cruise Manager for Carnival passengers.
- Monitor the email tied to the reservation. Cruise lines may send itinerary changes directly to booked guests.
- For Royal Caribbean, check its travel updates page. The page is an official channel, but the version checked October 8, 2026 displayed a January 29, 2026 Labadee update, not a Melissa notice. Royal Caribbean travel updates
Do not assume that another ship’s replacement port will apply to your sailing. A specific destination is confirmed only when your own cruise line communicates it.
