British Airways removed London Heathrow–Abu Dhabi and Heathrow–Kuwait City from its Northern Summer 2025 schedule, effective 30 March 2025, amid delays in Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine and parts deliveries. Reports also described a Heathrow–Dallas/Fort Worth suspension and a reduction in Heathrow–Miami flights. These were schedule changes reported for that period—not proof that every route remains closed or that every change was caused solely by an engine issue.
British Airways route changes reported for 2025
The table distinguishes full route withdrawals from a frequency reduction and a proposed cut that BA reversed. The dates and status below describe reported schedule changes; they should not be read as a current booking-status check.
| Route | Reported change | Timing and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| London Heathrow–Abu Dhabi | Daily service removed | AeroRoutes reported cancellation effective 30 March 2025. News coverage linked the pause to delays in Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine and parts deliveries. Later 2026/27 schedule reporting described a delayed or tentative return; check BA’s current timetable before treating the route as suspended or resumed. AeroRoutes; The Independent; schedule reporting |
| London Heathrow–Kuwait City | Daily service removed | AeroRoutes reported cancellation effective 30 March 2025. Its report listed 777-200ER and 787-9 aircraft, so the route should not be described as exclusively operated by 787s. AeroRoutes |
| London Heathrow–Bahrain | Proposed withdrawal reversed; reduced service retained | The National reported that BA kept the service at three flights a week for Summer 2025 after discussions with partners and stakeholders. Later 2026/27 suspension reports are separate schedule developments and do not establish an ongoing Trent 1000-related cut. The National |
| London Heathrow–Dallas/Fort Worth | Reported suspended | ch-aviation described the change among BA’s 2025 schedule responses to Rolls-Royce engine issues. Its current status is not established here. ch-aviation |
| London Heathrow–Miami | Frequency reduced from twice daily to once daily | ch-aviation reported the reduction alongside other 2025 schedule changes. This was a frequency cut, not a route closure. ch-aviation |
There is no definitive current BA list establishing that every named change was officially attributed to Trent 1000 constraints. Later suspensions, particularly in the Middle East, may have other causes and need to be dated and attributed separately.
Why Trent 1000 delivery delays affect schedules
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 is an engine used on Boeing 787 aircraft. A shortage or delay in engine and parts deliveries can limit the number of aircraft available to operate a planned timetable. That is a fleet-availability explanation; it is not evidence that a particular technical defect directly caused each individual route change.

In a statement quoted by The Independent, a British Airways spokesperson said: “We’re disappointed that we’ve had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays to the delivery of engines and parts from Rolls-Royce – particularly in relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to our 787 aircraft.” The Independent
What Rolls-Royce says it is changing
Rolls-Royce describes the Trent 1000 XE as the new production standard for future 787 deliveries and says it is upgrading Trent 1000 TEN customers. The company cites a redesigned high-pressure turbine blade and cooling changes intended to improve durability and time on wing. These are manufacturer claims about its technical response, not BA-specific performance measurements or proof that any particular route has returned. Rolls-Royce Trent 1000

How to check a route before booking
- Search the exact city pair and travel dates on British Airways’ booking site; a past schedule announcement does not establish whether seats are available now.
- If no direct flight appears, compare dates and nearby airports, then check whether another carrier or a connection fits your plans.
- If you already hold a ticket, use the booking’s current itinerary and BA’s change or disruption options to confirm what applies to your reservation.
Do not assume a route is permanently closed because it was removed from one season’s schedule, or assume that a later suspension has the same cause as the 2025 changes.
