SHEIN’s Perth pop-up took place at Centenary Pavilion, Claremont Showgrounds, from July 5 to 7, 2024. The event had originally been planned for Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre, but SHEIN announced the Claremont venue as its replacement on June 24. The pop-up has ended.
Where and when was the Perth pop-up?
SHEIN announced that the event would run at Centenary Pavilion at Claremont Showgrounds from July 5 to 7, 2024. PerthNow reported on opening day that the pop-up had begun at the pavilion and was scheduled to continue through July 7. PerthNow’s June 24 announcement named the replacement venue and dates; its July 5 opening-day report confirmed the event was underway.
Why did the venue change?
The initial plan was to hold the activation at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre. A Lakeside spokesperson told PerthNow that the activation would no longer proceed there, but the cited coverage did not establish why the centre cancelled it. SHEIN then confirmed the event would proceed at Claremont Showgrounds. Ragtrader’s June 25 report also covered the replacement venue and the earlier Lakeside plan, while Inside Retail Australia’s June 28 report quoted the Lakeside spokesperson.
What was advertised at the event?
SHEIN’s announcement described apparel and accessories, including seasonal collections, alongside a SHEGLAM beauty bar offering makeup tutorials and touch-ups. It also promoted DJ performances, giveaways and photo opportunities. Opening-day coverage described a broader mix of categories, including beauty, home goods, electronics, shoes and pet outfits. These reports describe the advertised event and categories; they do not establish that every item was in stock or that every visitor experienced each activity. What was reported about local opposition?
Ragtrader reported on June 28, 2024 that four Perth business owners had launched a petition asking the Royal Agricultural Society of WA to reconsider hosting the pop-up at Claremont Showgrounds. The publication said the petition had passed 5,400 signatures at the time of its report; that is a dated figure, not a current count. The report quoted organiser and local business owner Hazel Law saying, “We want the The Royal Agricultural Society of WA to reconsider hosting Shein’s pop-up at the Claremont Showgrounds,” Ragtrader reported on the petition.
