PerthNow reported on 29 August 2024 that Perth startup Edible Cutlery’s plant-based spoons, sporks and straws were being carried by three local retailers: The Herdsman, La Vida Vegan and Boat Shed Market. That is a record of reported availability at the time—not confirmation of current stock.
What was Edible Cutlery?
PerthNow identified Edible Cutlery as a Perth startup founded in 2022 by Abhinav Nagaraj and Nishanth Ananth. Its reported range comprised plant-based spoons, sporks and straws designed to be eaten after use. The flavours listed were chocolate, vanilla, oregano, Peri Peri, cheesy garlic and classic.
The report does not give ingredient lists, allergen or dietary information, nutrition data, or preparation and storage instructions. Anyone with dietary restrictions would need to check product packaging or ask the seller rather than assume suitability from the flavour or “plant-based” description.

Co-founder Abhinav Nagaraj told PerthNow the retailer partnerships were intended to make the products more accessible to people interested in sustainability. The report also quoted him describing the launch as a step toward reducing cutlery waste and offering consumers a practical option. These are the company’s stated aims, not independently measured results.

What the report does—and does not—establish
The PerthNow article documents a product concept, flavours and retailer placements as reported in August 2024. It does not provide product prices, tests of durability with hot or wet foods, certifications, packaging or disposal details, or a life-cycle assessment.
