Sennheiser is a German company, founded in 1945 in Wennebostel, near Hanover. Its beginnings were modest: a small operation in a farmhouse that first made measuring instruments before moving into microphones.
Where is Sennheiser from?
Sennheiser originated in Germany. Its historical starting point was Wennebostel, a locality near Hanover. The company’s official history says Dr. Ing. Fritz Sennheiser founded Laboratorium Wennebostel there in 1945; the company is commonly known as Sennheiser today. Sennheiser’s official company history

How the company began
The first business was known as Laboratorium Wennebostel, often shortened to Lab W. In its early years, it produced measuring instruments and sold them to Siemens. That work was followed by microphones: the company made the DM 1 for Siemens in 1946, then introduced its own DM 2 in 1947, according to its official history.
Wennebostel then and now
Wennebostel is significant both as the place where Sennheiser began and as the location the company gives for its group headquarters. Sennheiser’s 2023 ESG report identifies the headquarters as Wennebostel, near Hanover, Germany. That supports the locality’s continuing corporate significance, but it does not mean the original farmhouse and all present-day business operations are the same thing. Sennheiser ESG Report 2023

From measuring instruments to microphones
Sennheiser’s early transition into microphones began while it was still a young company. The 1946 DM 1 was made for Siemens; the following year, Lab W introduced the DM 2 under its own name. These milestones place the company’s early product history in the same German setting as its founding.
Sennheiser’s newsroom later described Fritz Sennheiser’s 1945 venture as one “that we call today a ‘start-up’.” The company’s account uses that wording retrospectively; it is not a quotation attributed to a named speaker. Sennheiser newsroom history
