How to read the benchmark
These percentages describe the historical share of acreage harvested by that reporting week. In this 18-state group, all five-year averages were at least 35%. North Carolina’s 96% was the highest; Tennessee and Texas followed at 93% and 91%. Michigan and Wisconsin were lowest at 35%, followed by Ohio at 38% and Pennsylvania at 44%.
USDA Crop Progress figures estimate the percentage of a crop at or beyond a specified stage. Reporters provide progress as of Sunday, and the weekly publication compares current-season progress with the prior year and a five-year average. Comparing states is most useful when the reporting week and measure are the same; it does not make the average a prediction for the current season.

Historical average versus current-season progress
This table is a historical comparison, not a live update. USDA issues Crop Progress reports weekly during the growing season. The ESMIS listing noted an October 5, 2026 release as the latest issue at the time this article’s source material was assembled; that report covers a different week and should not be substituted for the October 27 historical benchmark. For current conditions, consult the relevant week’s USDA report separately.
