That view shows whether Medicare processed the payment. Many people, though, never pay their Part B premium directly. Their premium is taken out of a Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefit, or debited from a bank account through Medicare Easy Pay. For those people the right record is somewhere else, so the first step is to confirm how your premium is paid.
Check a payment you made directly to Medicare
Medicare’s online bill payment guidance describes this route. Use it only if you pay Medicare yourself.
- Go to Medicare.gov’s online bill payment page and sign in to your secure Medicare account. If you do not have one, create it there. Medicare’s payment instructions point to this Medicare account rather than a separate Pay.gov account, so you do not need to set one up for Medicare premiums.
- Select My premiums.
- Select Payment history.
- Find the payment and keep its online payment confirmation number. Medicare provides that number when you pay online.
If you paid from a checking or savings account, allow time before you check. Medicare says online checking or savings payments generally take about five business days to process, so a payment made this week may not show as processed yet.
Find the right record for your payment method
The record you need depends on who collects the money. The table below matches each common setup with the place to look and the agency that can resolve a problem.
#1 Best Overall
- HIGH-VISIBILITY BILLING ALERT — Large red Attention sticker immediately flags overdue patient balances, account discrepancies, or statements requiring immediate review.
- SUPPORTS 3-STAGE COLLECTION PROCESS — Ideal for mid-to-late billing escalation, reinforcing reminder and final notice labels within a structured medical collection system.
- DESIGNED FOR HEALTHCARE OFFICES — Used on patient invoices, statements, chart folders, and internal account paperwork in clinics, dental practices, and medical facilities.
- LARGE WRITABLE FORMAT — 3-1/4 x 1-3/4 inch label with lined space allows staff to note balance details, payment deadlines, or account instructions directly on documents.
- WORKS WITH COMPLETE FILING SYSTEMS — Integrates with billing reminder stickers, insurance-paid labels, color-coded chart systems, and professional patient folders for coordinated workflow management.
| How your premium is paid | Who collects the money | Record to check | Who resolves a problem |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct online payment to Medicare | Medicare | Medicare account: My premiums, then Payment history | Medicare, 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) |
| Medicare Easy Pay (automatic bank debit) | Medicare, debiting your bank account | Monthly Medicare Easy Pay Premium Statement, plus your bank statement | Medicare, 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) |
| Bill payment set up through your bank | Your bank, which sends the money | Your bank’s bill payment history and bank statement | Your bank |
| Deduction from Social Security or RRB benefits | Social Security Administration or Railroad Retirement Board, from your monthly benefit | Your benefit payment records and bank deposit | Social Security Administration or RRB, as applicable |
Medicare can see only the payments it processes. A bank bill payment or a benefit deduction will not appear in the Medicare account’s Payment history.
Where the Medicare Premium Bill fits
Medicare Premium Bill (CMS-500)
The Medicare Premium Bill (CMS-500) is sent to people who pay Medicare directly for Part A, Part B, and/or Part D IRMAA. It lists the coverage months being paid for, and in some cases it can include past months. The bill tells you what Medicare is asking you to pay. The Payment history view tells you whether a payment was processed. Use the bill to understand the amount and dates, and use the account history to confirm the payment.

If your premium is deducted automatically
Medicare Easy Pay
Medicare Easy Pay takes your premium from your bank account each month. Medicare issues a monthly Medicare Easy Pay Premium Statement (CMS-20143) that shows the scheduled deduction amount and a breakdown of it. Here is how the records line up:
- The statement is generally issued around the 10th of the month.
- The deduction is generally made on the 20th of the month, or on the next business day if the 20th falls on a non-business day.
- Your bank statement shows whether the debit actually posted. Compare it with the amount on the Medicare statement.
Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board deduction
Most people have their Part B premium deducted automatically from Social Security or RRB benefits. If that applies to you, you may not receive a Medicare bill for the premium at all. To check it, look at your monthly benefit payment record and the matching bank deposit. The Social Security Administration’s guidance on managing your Medicare benefits explains the arrangement. People whose premiums are not deducted from benefits pay Medicare directly instead, and for them the Medicare account route above applies.

When a payment or deduction does not appear
Work through these checks in order before you contact anyone:
- Direct payment not showing: Wait for the processing window described above, keep your confirmation number, and then call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). The TTY number is 1-877-486-2048.
- Easy Pay statement or deduction missing: Call the same Medicare number. Keep the most recent statement and your bank statement ready.
- Bank bill payment not reconciling: Contact your bank. Medicare handles questions about its own bill and processing, not payments scheduled through your bank.
- Benefit deduction not matching: Compare the deduction on your Social Security or RRB records with your bank deposit, then contact the agency that pays your benefit.
Sign in only at Medicare.gov. Do not share your Medicare number or login details with anyone who contacts you about a premium.

What the online history cannot tell you
These instructions describe the official route. They cannot confirm whether a particular deduction posted or explain why a specific payment is missing, because that information sits in your account and in the records of the agency or bank that handled the payment. Not every premium appears in the same history view, which is why matching the payment method to the correct record in the table matters.
