Apple Pay earns 2% at other merchants, while the titanium card and virtual card number earn 1%. The best route is the one that qualifies for a higher rate on a purchase you already planned to make—not a reason to spend more.
Apple Card cash-back rates by payment method
Apple calls its cash-back reward Daily Cash. These are Apple’s stated product rates, not results from an independent comparison study. For qualifying U.S. purchases, the ordinary rate ladder is:

Apple’s current overview and application information describe these rates: Apple Card and Apple Card application information. Because merchant participation and offer terms can change, confirm the current details in Wallet before paying.
How to find a purchase that qualifies for 3%
Apple’s featured merchant materials name Apple, Ace Hardware, Booking.com, ChargePoint, Duane Reade, Exxon Mobil, Hertz, Nike, Uber, Uber Eats, and Walgreens. Appearing on that list does not mean every purchase qualifies: Apple Pay availability, the sales channel, the location, the transaction type, and sometimes a required link can determine the rate.

- Open Wallet and find Rewards & Offers. Apple says this area shows merchants offering 3% Daily Cash and can link to merchant apps or websites and help locate stores.
- Open the merchant’s offer details. Check the eligible locations, payment method, app or website requirements, and exclusions. Do not assume that a purchase qualifies merely because the merchant’s name appears in the list.
- Pay with Apple Pay when the offer requires it. A titanium-card swipe or use of the virtual card number earns the standard 1% rate, not the 3% Apple Pay rate.
- Check the transaction in Wallet afterward. Apple says the transaction detail view shows Daily Cash earned for that purchase.

Merchant-specific rules that can change the result
Apple purchases
Apple describes 3% Daily Cash on eligible Apple purchases, including devices, accessories, apps, and services. Treat the rate as a payment reward on a purchase you already intend to make; buying something solely to earn Daily Cash can cost more than the reward.

Nike and Exxon Mobil
Apple’s application terms describe eligible U.S. Nike purchases made with Apple Card through Apple Pay in Nike stores, on Nike.com, and in specified Nike apps; exclusions apply. For Exxon Mobil, the terms describe eligible U.S. fuel, convenience-store, and car-wash purchases where Apple Pay is available, but exclude some third-party merchants and gift cards. See Apple’s current application terms for the applicable conditions.
Walgreens, Duane Reade, Uber, and Uber Eats
Apple’s merchant terms include channel and transaction restrictions for Walgreens and Duane Reade, including some gift cards, third-party sellers, and transactions where Apple Pay is unavailable. For Uber and Uber Eats, Apple describes eligible payments in Uber’s apps or websites and excludes certain third-party-fulfilled purchases, gift cards, and transaction types. Review the current terms in Apple Support rather than assuming all purchases in a store or app qualify.

Booking.com and Ace Hardware
Booking.com’s Apple Card offer requires the designated customer link and qualifying prepaid booking and payment conditions. Some lodging and car-rental rate types, travel categories, third-party charges, and access from outside the U.S. are excluded. For Ace Hardware, Apple says the offer applies online, in its app, and at participating U.S. stores, subject to exclusions such as gift cards and third-party merchants. Confirm current eligibility and local participation in Wallet and the merchant details before booking or buying.
ChargePoint, Hertz, and other listed merchants
Do not infer these merchants’ eligibility rules from another partner’s offer. Open the individual merchant terms in Wallet; Apple’s list and terms are subject to change.

Separate merchant benefits are not extra Daily Cash
Apple’s overview describes additional partner benefits that are distinct from the card’s cash-back rate. It lists 2% Booking.com Travel Credits on eligible stays and car rentals booked through its customer portal, a six-month Uber One trial subject to sign-up conditions, and Hertz rental savings and benefits accessed through Wallet. These benefits have separate providers and conditions, so do not add their value to the 3% Daily Cash rate as if it were guaranteed cash back. Check Apple’s current overview and the relevant merchant terms before relying on an offer.

Apple says Daily Cash can be deposited to Apple Cash for spending or sending, or routed to Apple Card Savings. If neither is set up, Apple’s application information says a customer may request a statement credit. Apple Support states: “There’s no limit to how much Daily Cash you can get, and you choose where it goes.” The Savings yield is variable; no particular rate is guaranteed here.

If you return a purchase and receive a credit for its price, Apple says the Daily Cash earned on that purchase is charged back to the Apple Card. See Apple Support for its current guidance. Merchant eligibility and partner offers may change, so Wallet is the practical place to verify the terms for a specific purchase.
