Options-market pricing cited by CNBC on October 5, 2026, implied about a 50% chance that Nvidia would reach a $6 trillion market capitalization by the end of October. The estimate was roughly 13% for that week and 67% by December 18. Those were dated, market-implied estimates—not guarantees or settled forecasts.
What timing did options pricing imply?
CNBC reported that Nvidia was valued at just under $5.7 trillion after rising 1.3% on Friday. Against that snapshot, the report gave these estimated chances of reaching the stated valuation thresholds:

These figures describe the options-market snapshot reported by CNBC on October 5, 2026. They are not current odds, and the report did not provide enough contract-level detail to reproduce the calculations.
How were the estimates derived?
CNBC attributed the estimates to market-maker pricing of deltas on Nvidia options expiring that week and on October 30. It did not identify the exact contracts, timestamped option prices, market-maker source, or calculation used to turn those prices into the quoted probabilities. The estimates should therefore be read as reported interpretations of options pricing, not as independently verifiable probabilities.

Delta is a theoretical estimate of how much an option’s premium may change for a one-unit move in the underlying asset, assuming other factors stay the same. The Options Industry Council’s explanation of delta notes that some traders also use delta as a rough proxy for the chance an option will finish in the money. Delta changes as the share price, time to expiration, and implied volatility change; it is not a fixed probability that a company will reach a particular market value.
What do the odds—and their limits—mean?
The percentages pair a valuation threshold with a particular time horizon. A higher estimate over a longer period does not mean the same outcome is more likely on any given day, and the estimates should not be compared without keeping their dates attached. CNBC also cautioned that delta-based readings allow for a comparable move in the opposite direction.

The report noted that some Nvidia calls had higher implied volatility than equivalent puts, a pattern it characterized as call skew and as a sign of upside-hedging bias. That describes how options were priced or positioned; it does not prove that traders collectively expected a rise or that the stock would reach either threshold.
Why a $6 trillion market cap is not a fixed share price
Market capitalization is the share price multiplied by shares outstanding. The per-share price corresponding to a $6 trillion valuation can therefore change as the share count changes. CNBC’s $248-per-share figure applied to its $7 trillion scenario using the share count at that time; it should not be treated as a current price target or used to infer a $6 trillion share price.

The same report said Nvidia represented about 13% of the Nasdaq-100 and 8% of the S&P 500 at the time. Those are dated index weights, not current figures.

A later options-based estimate would need a fresh market snapshot. Relevant inputs include Nvidia’s share price and shares outstanding, the resulting market capitalization, and the live options chain. A reliable calculation would also need to specify the contracts, expiration dates, timestamp, and method used to translate option pricing into a probability for a market-cap threshold; CNBC’s report did not disclose those details.

Options can involve substantial risk. The Options Industry Council explains that an option buyer can lose the entire premium if the contract expires worthless. The reported probabilities are not a reason by themselves to buy or sell Nvidia shares or options.
