Larry Ellison moved ahead of Mark Zuckerberg to become the world’s second-richest person on June 12, 2025, according to Forbes’ real-time billionaire estimates. Forbes put Ellison at about $243 billion and Zuckerberg at $239 billion in its reported snapshot. The change followed a record rise in Oracle shares—not a sudden windfall of cash—and the ranking was a momentary estimate, not a current or permanent position.
When did Larry Ellison overtake Mark Zuckerberg?
The ranking change was reported on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Forbes’ real-time list placed Ellison second, behind Elon Musk, and ahead of Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. In the same Forbes-republished report, Zuckerberg was estimated at $239 billion and Bezos at $227 billion. Forbes’ report described the figures as real-time wealth estimates, not audited balances or cash available to spend.
How much was Ellison worth?
Forbes’ June 2025 article reported Ellison’s estimated wealth at $243 billion, up $26 billion, by Thursday noon. A Forbes verified video published June 12 gave a slightly earlier or otherwise different midday snapshot: $242 billion, a $25 billion increase. Those figures are close but not identical; they should be treated as separate intraday estimates rather than combined into a single precise measurement.
Forbes’ reported $243 billion estimate put Ellison $4 billion ahead of Zuckerberg in that particular snapshot. Because these rankings rely on changing asset valuations, a small lead can shift with stock prices or with the tracker’s timing and methodology.

Why did Oracle’s stock move Ellison’s ranking?
Oracle shares reached a record after the company released quarterly results, according to the contemporaneous Forbes account. Ellison held about 41% of Oracle, so an increase in the market value of the company’s shares raised the estimated value of his large stake and lifted his position on the billionaire list.
The market discussion around the results included expectations for Oracle’s cloud infrastructure business and demand for AI training workloads. TD Cowen analyst Derrick Wood forecast that Oracle fiscal 2026 would be a “major inflection point” for its core cloud infrastructure service. That was an analyst outlook reported in June 2025, not a confirmed result. Benzinga quoted Deutsche Bank analyst Brad Zelnick calling the earnings update a “watershed” moment; that characterization was also an analyst’s opinion, not a guarantee of future performance. Benzinga’s June 13 coverage provides the latter context.

Was Ellison actually the world’s richest person?
No. The June 12, 2025 report placed him second, behind Elon Musk. This event should not be confused with a separate, brief September 10, 2025 move: the Associated Press reported that Ellison passed Musk during an Oracle surge, but Musk was back ahead by the end of that trading day according to Bloomberg’s index. The AP account describes that later, short-lived change.

It accurately describes the Forbes estimate reported on June 12, 2025, but it is not a timeless title. Billionaire rankings can vary by publisher and timestamp, and large public-company holdings fluctuate with share prices. For example, a Forbes report dated September 3, 2026 placed Ellison seventh after he passed Jensen Huang. That later snapshot underscores that the June 2025 ranking is historical, not a statement of his position today. Forbes’ September 2026 report gives that later ranking.

When comparing billionaire rankings, use figures from the same publisher and snapshot. The provider, time of day or market-session point, estimated net worth, and rank all matter; an intraday estimate from one tracker should not be paired with another tracker’s ranking as if they were one measurement.
