For most U.S. shoppers, Black Friday week—from early November through Cyber Monday—is the strongest general window for the lowest advertised TV prices. Consumer Reports identifies Black Friday as the period with the deepest TV discounts (Consumer Reports TV buying guide). Late January and early February can be especially good for large screens, while spring and early summer often bring clearance prices on outgoing models. The right choice depends on whether you value the lowest price, broad selection, a specific model, or the newest technology.
The TV-buying calendar at a glance
| Period | What usually happens | Best for | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | Post-holiday clearance and CES announcements | Previous-year large TVs | Scarce sizes and retailer-specific variants |
| Late January–early February | Super Bowl promotions and older-stock clearance | Large screens and proven prior-year models | Deals vary by brand, size and inventory |
| March–June | New lines arrive; outgoing models are cleared | Cheapest previous-year OLED, Mini-LED or QLED | Popular sizes can sell out |
| July | Prime Day-related and summer promotions | Mainstream TVs, bundles and pre-football purchases | Not consistently cheaper than November |
| August–September | Late-summer and Labor Day sales | Fall sports deadline or verified low price | Less selection than earlier in the year |
| October–early November | Early holiday deals and special model numbers | More inventory, delivery and installation time | Holiday variants may differ from reviewed models |
| Black Friday–Cyber Monday | Aggressive retailer competition | Lowest broad-market advertised prices | Limited stock and derivative models |
| December | Remaining holiday inventory is marked down | Flexible shoppers | Desired model or size may be gone |
As of August 18, 2026, Labor Day is the next predictable U.S. promotion period. If your TV works and price is the priority, late November remains the safer wait. If you need a set for fall sports, judge a Labor Day offer against the model’s established price history rather than assuming it is the annual low.
Choose the window that matches your goal
Lowest general price
Wait for Black Friday through Cyber Monday. This is the best default for shoppers willing to compare specifications and accept a previous-year or retailer-exclusive model. Consumer Reports calls Black Friday the deepest-discount period, but no calendar date guarantees the lowest price on every individual set.
Best large-screen value
Check both Super Bowl season and Black Friday. Retailers prominently promote large screens in late January and early February, and older inventory is reduced before spring launches. Consumer Reports describes the Super Bowl period as generally the second-strongest discount season, while results still depend on size, brand and stock.

Cheapest premium outgoing model
Watch spring and early summer after the replacement has actually shipped. RTINGS says major brands typically introduce much of their new range in spring or early summer, creating clearance opportunities for the outgoing generation (RTINGS: When to Buy a TV). Buy once the price is compelling and your size remains available; waiting for a theoretical final low can leave you with no inventory.
Newest technology
Shop after new models launch in spring or early summer if you value the latest panel, processing, gaming or connectivity improvements. New sets normally carry a premium at launch, and a new model is not automatically better for every room or use case.
Best balance of price and selection
Start tracking a specific model several weeks before Black Friday and consider an early-November purchase. Prices can approach holiday levels before the official date, while inventory for popular sizes, delivery slots and installation appointments is better than during the peak.

An immediate replacement
Buy when a well-reviewed model reaches a genuinely competitive price. A broken, unsafe or unreliable TV—and the cost of missing a fixed event—can outweigh uncertain savings from waiting.

Why the model-year cycle matters
A typical TV remains on sale for roughly a year, although timing differs by brand, series, size and region. The usual pattern is announcement (often around January’s CES), spring or early-summer release, premium launch pricing, gradual reductions, holiday promotions and eventual clearance. RTINGS’ 2026 lineup overview illustrates why announcements do not mean every size is immediately available.
Prices fall as a model ages, but inventory falls too. OLED sets and popular 55-, 65- and 77-inch sizes can disappear before the absolute lowest advertised price. A well-tested outgoing TV may therefore be a better value than an unreleased replacement whose improvements you do not need.

Holiday model numbers can hide differences
Manufacturers and retailers often use altered suffixes or special model numbers for holiday sales. Two TVs with similar names may differ in panel, native refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 port count, variable-refresh-rate support, local dimming, brightness, processor, anti-reflection coating, stand, remote or smart-TV software. RTINGS warns that these “warehouse” models may not match the set reviewed earlier in the year.
- Copy the complete model number, including regional and retailer suffixes.
- Compare panel type, refresh rate, HDR support and gaming features.
- Check brightness, contrast, viewing angles, processing and reflection handling in an independent review.
- Verify mounting pattern, stand dimensions, included remote and warranty.
A low price can also mean a lower-tier series, open-box or refurbished condition, a marketplace seller, a rebate, or a bundle you would not otherwise buy. “Lowest price” and “best value” are different outcomes.
How to tell whether a sale is real
- Set minimum requirements first. Decide room size, viewing distance, panel type, resolution, refresh rate, HDR and HDMI 2.1 needs before looking at discounts.
- Track the exact model. Record prices at multiple retailers and the manufacturer’s store for several weeks. Amazon history tools such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel help with Amazon listings but do not evaluate picture quality or cross-retailer value.
- Compare the real checkout total. Include membership requirements, delivery, installation, haul-away, accessories and any rebate. A mail-in rebate is not an instant discount; check eligibility, documentation and claim deadlines.
- Compare the next model up. A large percentage off an inflated list price or a weaker derivative may be worse value than a smaller discount on the fully specified model.
- Check protections. Read the return period, dead-pixel policy, delivery-damage process, price adjustment or matching rules and warranty before ordering.
Retailer and manufacturer pages can help you verify current offers: LG TVs, LG promotions, Samsung offers, Amazon TVs, Best Buy TVs, Walmart TVs and Costco TVs. Inventory, prices and promotions change quickly.

What to know about the major sale periods
January and the Super Bowl window
January combines leftover holiday inventory with CES announcements. Late January through early February adds sports-related promotions, especially on large screens. This is a useful second chance after Black Friday, but offers may concentrate on particular brands, sizes or retailer variants.
Spring and early summer clearance
Once replacement models ship, outgoing TVs can reach their best prices. Confirm that the successor is in stores, compare historical prices and buy before your required size vanishes. Do not wait solely because a brand has announced a new line.
July promotions
Prime Day and competing summer events can produce genuine discounts, particularly on mainstream or prior-year sets. Some promotions substitute soundbars, installation, store credit or subscriptions for a direct price cut. For example, LG’s 2026 ultra-large promotion offered up to $1,000 on selected models from July 20 through August 2, 2026; it was expired by August 18 (LG Ultra-Large TV Deal). Treat July as an opportunity, not a guaranteed annual low.

Labor Day
Late-summer sales can make sense when you need a TV before football season or find a phased-out model near its verified low. They are less compelling when you can comfortably wait for November and the current set is still close to launch price.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Retailers compete hardest during this period, but stock can be limited and special model numbers common. Cyber Monday often extends Black Friday pricing rather than creating an entirely new TV season. A deal can disappear before Monday if inventory is constrained.
Quick Recap
Protect the purchase after delivery
- Inspect the carton and screen immediately; photograph visible damage.
- Test pixels, uniformity, HDMI inputs, Wi-Fi, remote, apps, sound and gaming features while the return period is open.
- Keep the original box until inspection is complete.
- Report shipping damage by the retailer’s deadline and follow its exchange procedure.
- Check whether a price-adjustment policy applies if the same model drops after purchase. Samsung’s policy, for example, describes eligible pre-purchase and return-window matches but excludes certain products, discounts, open-box items and rebates (Samsung price-matching guidance).
A simple decision rule
- Need it now: Buy a tested model at a competitive price and prioritize delivery and return protection.
- Want the lowest broad-market price: Track the exact model and wait for Black Friday week.
- Want an outgoing premium TV: Monitor spring and early-summer clearance after replacements ship.
- Want the newest technology: Buy after launch only when the feature improvements justify the premium.
