NTT Communications announced its planned acquisition of a 74% stake in India’s Netmagic on January 25, 2012—not in October 2022. The October 2022 date refers to a broader NTT overseas-business realignment, not a new Netmagic acquisition.

When did NTT acquire Netmagic?

NTT Communications and Netmagic announced the proposed 74% stake acquisition on January 25, 2012, subject to approval by relevant authorities in India. The announcement establishes the intended transaction and its condition, but does not state when it legally closed. It therefore does not, by itself, establish a closing date or the later path of Netmagic’s ownership. NTT Communications and Netmagic’s January 25, 2012 announcement.

What did Netmagic operate when the deal was announced?

Netmagic described itself in 2012 as an established Indian hosting and data-center provider. It said it operated seven data centers in cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Noida in Delhi-NCR, and Bangalore, and served more than 1,000 customers with colocation and managed hosting. The announcement also cited ISP and cloud services.

The companies framed the deal as a way to combine Netmagic’s Indian capabilities with NTT Communications’ international network and data-center footprint. Those were the companies’ stated expectations at announcement, not independent assessments of market position or subsequent results.

What happened to Netmagic in October 2022?

October 2022 relates to NTT’s wider overseas corporate realignment. In a May 9, 2022 announcement, NTT said it planned to establish an overseas operating company that October. The proposed company was to be owned 55% by NTT DATA and 45% by NTT, and was intended to coordinate overseas business and offer services spanning infrastructure through applications. Those percentages describe the planned operating company—not Netmagic’s shareholding. NTT’s May 9, 2022 realignment announcement.

How did NTT’s Indian operations change in 2021?

An earlier integration helps explain why Netmagic later appears within NTT India operations. NTT announced in November 2020 that NTT India Pvt. Ltd., NTT Com India, and Netmagic would form a single organization effective January 1, 2021. This was an integration of Indian businesses, separate from both the 2012 proposed stake acquisition and the 2022 overseas realignment. NTT’s November 2020 announcement of the India integration.

How does NTT describe Netmagic today?

NTT’s current Global Data Centers page describes Netmagic as a former operating identity and presents the business as part of its India data-center and cloud services. The page says the business serves more than 1,000 enterprises across Mumbai. That is NTT’s current company description, not an independently audited market ranking.
