Boeing said on December 17, 2024, that it had resumed 767 and 777 widebody production in Everett, Washington, after the IAM machinists’ strike. The company’s 2024 annual report places the production restart in early December, after the IAM 751 contract was ratified in November. December 17 is the public announcement date, not an established first day of production.
When did Boeing restart 767 and 777 production?
Boeing’s 2024 annual report says production resumed in early December 2024. Boeing publicly announced the restart of the affected Everett widebody programs on December 17. The available company statements do not identify the first production day for each individual 767, 777 or 777X line.
The restart followed ratification of the IAM 751 agreement in November. Boeing had earlier confirmed that 737 production had restarted; its January 23, 2025 preliminary results later said production had restarted across the 737, 767 and 777/777X programs.
What the later production targets mean
Subsequent company disclosures describe targets, not verified monthly output. They also cover programs with different line scopes and milestones.

| Program | What Boeing disclosed | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 767 | Approximately three aircraft per month in Boeing’s 2025 annual report. Boeing 2025 annual report | The target applies to an assembly line that includes commercial 767 aircraft and the KC-46A tanker derivative. Boeing expected commercial 767 production to end by 2027; that plan does not mean the shared line or tanker derivative ends then. |
| 777 and 777X | A combined target of four aircraft per month in Boeing’s March 2025 filing. Boeing March 2025 filing | This was a target for the combined programs in that filing, not a count of aircraft actually completed each month. |
These later targets should not be read back into the December 2024 restart: the restart announcement did not promise a particular production rate or delivery date.
Why the 777X delivery schedule remained uncertain
In its 2025 annual report, Boeing said the expected first delivery of the 777-9 had shifted to 2027 after reassessment of certification timing and production challenges. The company said certification flight testing was ongoing. The 2027 date was a forecast dependent on certification, not a result guaranteed by the 2024 production restart. Boeing 2025 annual report

The same report listed cumulative firm 777X orders of 358 at December 31, 2024, and 560 at December 31, 2025. Those are Boeing’s year-end order totals; they are not delivered-aircraft figures or a measure of production output.

In its January 2025 preliminary results, Boeing reported $1.1 billion in pre-tax charges on the 777X and 767 programs associated with the IAM work stoppage and agreement. This is the company’s program-charge figure, not an estimate limited to strike costs alone. Boeing preliminary fourth-quarter results, January 23, 2025
