Those are separate page-reported figures, not independently verified totals.
What the Hugging Face dataset contains
The repository, datasocial/tiktok-5.6B-videos, is a structured metadata collection. Its listed fields describe videos and their activity; they are not the footage itself.
- Identifiers and context: video IDs, posting timestamps, regions, languages, video or photo type, and duration.
- Text and discovery signals: captions, hashtags, mentions, and on-screen text.
- Audio and commercial labels: sounds, advertising and branded-content flags, and TikTok Shop product and seller IDs.
- Engagement and platform-related fields: engagement counts, plus nullable flags for AI-generated content and recommendation eligibility.
That distinction matters for anyone evaluating the dataset: it may support analysis of metadata and engagement, but the page does not describe a downloadable library of the underlying TikTok clips.
Why the dataset has two different counts
The dataset card describes 5,597,462,038 public videos. Separately, the live repository page reports 5,598,141,717 rows and 460 GB. The card says its snapshot date is October 3, 2026; the repository’s reported row count is a page figure that can change as the repository changes. These numbers should not be treated as interchangeable or as a third-party audit of the collection.

Coverage and data-quality caveats
The card says the collection spans 2014 through October 2026. It also notes that older records come from an archive, may have zero or null values for some fields, and may have durations rounded to the nearest second. A missing or zero value in an older record therefore should not automatically be interpreted as proof that the underlying event or attribute did not exist.
What is known about how it was collected
In an October 2026 Reddit post, the uploader, DataShack, says the collection was built by reverse engineering TikTok’s mobile app and describes the data as public and accessible without logging in: the uploader’s post. The Hugging Face page also advertises a technical guide and source code related to mobile API endpoints, request signing, and device registration. These are the uploader’s descriptions; the sources cited here do not independently verify the total, completeness, or continuing accessibility of the collection.
What “free” and CC BY-NC 4.0 mean here
The dataset card labels the release CC BY-NC 4.0 and describes it as free for research and personal use. It distinguishes those uses from commercial offerings, including commercial use, creator profiles, and daily updates, which it directs readers to datasocial.ai. This is the card’s representation of its terms and services; that label alone does not establish rights to every underlying record or settle platform terms, privacy obligations, or other legal questions. Readers considering a use should review the live dataset card and obtain appropriate advice for their circumstances.

The repository and uploader’s post do not establish that TikTok approved the collection, that every record is complete, or that the data will remain accessible or updated. TikTok’s terms page is available at TikTok Terms of Service, and its Research API page describes an official product; the material available for this article does not establish whether that API is an equivalent or commercially usable alternative. Check current primary-source terms and eligibility rather than assuming either point.
