Hoda Kotb was reportedly earning more than $20 million a year as a full-time Today co-anchor, according to a September 2024 report by Us Weekly citing Puck and an unnamed source described as having direct knowledge of her salary. The figure has not been publicly confirmed by Kotb or NBC in the sources reviewed, and it refers to her former full-time role—not her later correspondent work.
What salary was Hoda Kotb reportedly making on Today?
Us Weekly reported on September 27, 2024, that Kotb was making more than $20 million annually on Today. The outlet attributed the figure to Puck, which cited a source described as having direct knowledge of her salary. This is an anonymously sourced media report, not a disclosed contract or an official NBC salary figure.
The same report said NBC had proposed a pay cut during contract discussions. That detail, too, is reported information rather than a confirmed account from NBC or Kotb. The available sources do not establish the exact amount of any proposed reduction or what her contract specified.
Did Kotb leave Today because of a salary cut?
The reporting does not establish that money caused Kotb to leave. Us Weekly quoted an unnamed source close to her saying that “salary played no role in Hoda’s decision.” That is a separate anonymous account, not a direct statement from Kotb.

Kotb’s public explanation, as reported by the Associated Press, was about family and a new phase of life. After turning 60, she said she wanted more time with her daughters and mother. Her departure memo, quoted by AP, said: “my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie.” The public explanation and anonymous reporting about contract negotiations should not be treated as proof of a cause-and-effect link.
What happened to her role after leaving as co-anchor?
Kotb announced on September 26, 2024, that she planned to leave Today early the following year. She had joined the program in 2007 and had co-anchored its first two hours with Savannah Guthrie since 2018, according to AP. Her last day in the full-time role was January 10, 2025.

A January 2025 Us Weekly report said Kotb had a special correspondent arrangement with NBC and Today and expected to make occasional appearances. It did not disclose her compensation under that arrangement. The reported $20-million-plus estimate concerns her earlier full-time co-anchor role and should not be presented as her current pay.
