Amazon Prime Try Before You Buy was a now-discontinued benefit for trying selected clothing, shoes and accessories at home before deciding what to keep. Amazon ended it on January 31, 2025. When it was available, customers could order up to six eligible items and had seven days after delivery to return unwanted items without being charged for them.
How Prime Try Before You Buy worked
The program let customers try selected apparel, shoes and accessories at home. It was not a general trial offer for all products sold on Amazon.

- Choose up to six eligible items.
- Receive the items and decide what to keep.
- Return unwanted items within seven days after delivery; customers were not charged for the items they returned.
Amazon first tested the offering as Prime Wardrobe in 2017. It later operated under the name Prime Try Before You Buy. The Associated Press reported these historical terms and the end date in its January 13, 2025 report.
Is Amazon Try Before You Buy still available?
No. January 31, 2025 was the final day eligible customers could place orders using the benefit. It is no longer a current Prime membership feature.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
Why did Amazon end the benefit?
An Amazon spokesperson told the Associated Press that Try Before You Buy had reached only a limited number of items and that customers were increasingly using newer AI-powered shopping and fit features, including virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights and improved size charts. That is Amazon’s stated explanation; it does not establish that those features replaced the service for every customer or improved shopping outcomes.
How to check return options for an Amazon purchase now
Current return eligibility and deadlines depend on the item and order. Check the product page and your order details rather than assuming the former seven-day Try Before You Buy terms apply. Amazon’s return policy guidance says you can check an item’s return eligibility in Order History.
