Tell your manager clearly that you’ve decided to resign, give a final working date that matches your notice requirements, and offer a practical handover if you can. You don’t have to explain your next job or share personal details. For example:
“I wanted to let you know that I’ve decided to resign from my role. My proposed last day is [date], based on my notice requirements. I appreciate [specific opportunity or experience], and I’ll work with you on a clear handover.”
What to say in a resignation conversation
Arrange a private conversation with your manager if that is practical, then follow the employer’s written-notice process. Acas recommends checking the contract or asking a manager or HR about the process, and discussing how and when coworkers will hear the news.
