USDA’s October 2026 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. As of October 8, USDA has not released it, so its updated estimates and any market response are not yet known. For a useful comparison, start with September’s report, then check how the October balance sheets change supply, use and ending stocks.
When is the October WASDE released?
USDA schedules the October 2026 report for October 9 at noon Eastern. The USDA WASDE page provides the report in downloadable formats. The latest prior report listed in USDA’s archive as of October 8 was released September 11, 2026, making it the immediate comparison point for October.

Because the October report is not yet published, no October-specific estimate changes or market reaction can be stated as fact. Treat it as a scheduled release, not as a report whose results are already known.
What does WASDE cover?
USDA describes WASDE as a monthly release of annual supply-and-demand forecasts. It covers U.S. and world wheat, rice, coarse grains, oilseeds and cotton; U.S. supply and use of sugar, meat, poultry, eggs and milk; and Mexico’s sugar supply and use. USDA states: “The World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) is prepared and released by the World Agricultural Outlook Board (WAOB).”

For readers following farm economics or commodity markets, the report’s scope matters: it combines crop and livestock-product outlooks, and U.S. figures should not be confused with world totals.
How USDA develops its estimates
WASDE is an interagency forecast, not a direct readout of one survey or a guarantee of what will happen. USDA’s Economic Research Service says the monthly process combines data from producer and industry surveys conducted by USDA agencies, economic models and statistical analysis, and expert judgment informed by domestic and international context.

Agencies develop the projections through a two-week, consensus-based process. WAOB coordinates that work, chairs commodity committees and issues the report. The estimates can change as new information becomes available.
How to compare October with September
For each commodity balance sheet you care about, compare the October estimate with September’s on the same basis. Check the report’s units and definitions before quoting a number: marketing years and categories can differ across commodities.

- Start with supply. Compare beginning stocks, production and imports where reported. These show what is available for the marketing year.
- Review use. Check domestic consumption, exports and the other use categories listed for that commodity. A change in use can alter the projected amount left over.
- Check ending stocks, or carryout. Note the new estimate and its change from September. Ending stocks can shift because supply changed, use changed, or both.
- Keep geography and marketing year straight. Read U.S. and world totals separately, and confirm the marketing-year basis attached to each table.
- Separate forecasts from outcomes. WASDE figures are estimates, not final results. A later report may revise them as additional data arrive.
USDA ERS’s WASDE Projections at a Glance visualization was updated September 14, 2026. USDA cautions that totals in the visualization may not add exactly because of rounding; use the official report tables when you need precise quoted totals.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why October may draw added attention
USDA says its agricultural projections are updated annually following the October WASDE release. Those annual outputs include broader analysis and longer-horizon projections than the monthly report. That timing can make October a notable point in the forecast calendar, but it does not establish that a particular annual projection will appear with the October 2026 report.
What is not known before release
Until USDA publishes the October report, its figures, revisions from September and market response remain unknown. Once available, use the October tables themselves for report-specific numbers rather than assuming a change in stocks or production from the release date alone.
