The $200 million Powerball jackpot in this story was a historical Australian draw reported on 31 January 2024—not a current jackpot, and not a report that Kiki or another named person won. PerthNow attributed the advice to Kiki, a TikTok personality whose full name and professional credentials were not verified in the report. Her suggestions are personal advice, not independently validated financial guidance. PerthNow’s 2024 story is the source for her recommendations.
What did Kiki recommend after a major win?
Kiki’s advice, as reported by PerthNow, was to avoid rushing into big decisions immediately after a win. She suggested telling one trusted person, taking time to make a plan, and thinking carefully about work and travel. On debt, she cautioned against paying off a mortgage or family members’ mortgages straight away: “Don’t do anything drastic, don’t go and pay off your mortgage, don’t go pay off your mum and dad’s mortgage,” she said.
These are suggestions attributed to Kiki, not universal rules. Whether to repay a particular debt, change jobs or travel depends on a winner’s finances, obligations and priorities; the story does not establish that one choice is right for every winner.
What is taxable—and what is not?
The Lott says Australian lottery winnings are tax-free income, but interest earned after a prize is deposited is subject to income tax. That distinction matters: the prize and income generated by holding or investing it are not the same thing. The Lott’s tax guidance recommends getting professional financial advice for a major win.

The Australian Taxation Office’s guidance on prizes and awards says ordinary lottery prizes, such as lotto draws and raffles, do not need to be declared under that guidance. It treats prizes from investment-related lotteries run by a bank, building society, credit union or investment body differently. A general statement about lotto winnings should not be extended to every prize described as a lottery prize, and personal tax or benefit consequences can depend on individual circumstances.
What should a winner do first?
Separate the required steps for securing and claiming a prize from discretionary choices about debt, work and spending. The Lott recommends professional financial advice for major wins. Before making significant decisions, a winner can use this practical sequence:

- Confirm the prize and claim route. Check the operator’s current instructions for the ticket and the jurisdiction where it was bought. In-store claiming requirements vary by purchase jurisdiction and prize amount; use The Lott’s current help guidance and the relevant claim instructions rather than relying on a general account of the process.
- If the ticket was bought online, check the account and withdrawal deadlines. The Lott says major online prizes are credited to the online account after a two-week provisional period. A prize over $100,000 credited to that account must be withdrawn to an Australian bank account within 30 days.
- Get advice before committing to major choices. Speak with a qualified financial professional about the circumstances and options that apply to you. Kiki’s suggestions about privacy, debt, employment and travel are not a substitute for tailored advice.
What the 2024 jackpot figure means
PerthNow’s article was published on 31 January 2024 and described an upcoming Australian Powerball draw with a reported $200 million jackpot. The Lott’s FY24 summary also records a $200 million Powerball jackpot during that financial year. The figure is historical context for the article, not a live jackpot amount or a promise about future draws.
