Keep written records and escalate through the depository or SEBI’s SCORES if the issue remains unresolved.
1. Confirm that shares were allotted
Use the official registrar or exchange status page identified in the IPO’s offer materials. Check the application reference or PAN and the allotted quantity, then save the result. An application acknowledgement or a bank message by itself does not confirm allotment.
If the official result shows no allotment, there is no share credit to expect. Check the application funds separately: with ASBA, the application amount is blocked in the bank account; the amount for allotted shares is debited after allocation, while a non-allotted application does not require a refund because the funds remained in the account. SEBI describes the process in its ASBA guidance and UPI process guidance.
2. Check the formal demat record
Review the depository transaction statement and alerts for the IPO’s securities (ISIN) and the relevant transaction date. A broker app is a display of account information; if it does not show the shares, compare it with the formal transaction record before concluding that the credit failed. SEBI’s Investor Charter advises investors to check account statements and raise discrepancies with their DP.

- If the transaction statement shows the credit but the broker app does not, contact the broker or DP with the statement details and ask them to reconcile the display.
- If the transaction statement also shows no credit, proceed to the DP and registrar checks below.
3. Ask the DP to check the account and bid details
Contact the DP that maintains your demat account. Ask it to confirm that the account is active and ready to receive credits, and to compare the beneficiary details in the IPO bid with the account details. NSE lists an inactive account or a restriction on credits, a data mismatch, and an incorrect demat number in the bid as possible causes of a failed credit. Its ASBA IPO investor FAQ advises: “Ensure that your DP account is active and is in ready state for receiving credits.”
4. Send the registrar the information needed to investigate
If allotment is confirmed and the credit is absent, write to the Registrar to the Issue using contact details in the IPO offer document or the registrar’s official website. NSE specifically advises providing the registrar with a copy of the demat Client Master so it can enable upload of allotted shares.
Include the issue name, application number, confirmed allotment quantity, DP ID and client ID, and a concise account of what the DP checked. Provide PAN or other identifiers only as requested through the registrar’s official channel. Attach the Client Master and relevant allotment evidence, and keep your message and acknowledgement. Never send passwords, OTPs, or trading login credentials; SEBI’s Investor Charter warns investors not to share them.
5. Escalate an unresolved complaint
If the DP and registrar do not resolve the discrepancy, make a written complaint to both and retain their reference numbers. The Registrar to the Issue handles post-issue investor queries; the DP is the account-facing intermediary, and NSDL or CDSL provides depository infrastructure and investor complaint channels. SEBI’s Investor Charter identifies the depository complaint route and SEBI’s SCORES portal for escalation. It states that grievances lodged directly with a depository are to be resolved within 30 days. Follow the current instructions on the official portals, as complaint procedures may change.

An allotment message is not proof that shares are already available to trade. NSE says trading can take place after listing once allotted shares have been credited to the demat account. Confirm both conditions rather than relying on an allotment notification or a pending broker-app display.
