If FedEx says your package was delivered but you cannot find it, check the tracking details and any delivery photo, look in likely drop-off spots, then report the problem to FedEx and save the case number. If the proof shows a different location, contact FedEx support. Also contact the seller or shipper about the purchase-side remedy. The exact reporting process and claim rules depend on the shipment’s country and service.
What to do first when a FedEx package is missing
- Review tracking and proof of delivery. Open the shipment’s tracking details and check any available proof-of-delivery information or photo. Compare it with your address and the expected delivery spot. Picture proof is available only for some shipments; FedEx describes it for U.S. and Canadian residential parcel deliveries that do not require a signature. If the image shows another location, contact FedEx customer support. FedEx picture proof of delivery.
- Check likely nearby drop-off locations. Look at other entrances, doors, a mailroom, reception desk, or with a neighbor if appropriate. Do not enter private property or confront someone to retrieve the parcel; ask FedEx to investigate and arrange retrieval.
- Report the missing package to FedEx. For the U.S. recipient flow, enter the tracking or reference number, choose “Manage Delivery,” then “Report Missing Package,” confirm that you have checked likely locations, provide contact details, choose text or email, and submit. - Contact the seller or shipper. Share the tracking information and FedEx case number, and ask what remedy is available for the order. A merchant may offer a replacement or file a carrier claim, depending on the transaction and shipment.
What happens if a package was delivered to the wrong location?
FedEx describes delivery to the wrong address as a misdelivery. Its published process is to request an on-call pickup so a driver can retrieve the package, then attempt delivery again the same day if possible or on the next business day. That is a conditional reattempt after retrieval, not a guaranteed resolution time for every shipment or country. Contact FedEx rather than trying to recover a parcel from another address yourself. When to contact the seller or shipper
For U.S. shipments, FedEx says recipients can contact the merchant to request a replacement, ask the merchant to file a claim, or file a claim themselves. Contact the seller promptly if the parcel is tied to an order, especially if you need a replacement or refund decision. In a suspected fraud or interception situation—such as a package being sent to a different address—FedEx’s U.S. fraud guidance says to contact the shipper first. How to prepare if you need to file a claim
- Keep the tracking number, FedEx case number, order confirmation, receipt or invoice, and relevant messages with FedEx and the seller.
- FedEx lists purchase or manufacturer invoices, repair invoices or estimates, expense statements, and appraisals among examples of supporting documents. For a consumer order, retain your purchase receipt or order confirmation and provide the documents FedEx requests. A claim is reviewed under the applicable terms; payment is not automatic. - Do not treat a request for proof of delivery as a filed claim. The 2026 U.S. Service Guide says a proof-of-delivery request alone does not satisfy claim-filing requirements. 2026 U.S. Service Guide.
Check the deadline and local process
Claim deadlines are not global policy. FedEx’s U.S. claims page says undelivered or lost shipment claims must be filed within nine months of the shipment date. The 2026 U.S. Service Guide describes a nine-month period after delivery for loss, damage, or delay, and, when FedEx did not deliver the package, nine months after it was tendered to FedEx. Reporting tools also vary by country and service. The U.S. recipient and shipper flows are not interchangeable for every shipment; FedEx distinguishes expedited from standard services in shipper guidance. FedEx Canada provides a separate missing-package and incorrect-delivery reporting page, and its form is not available for FedEx Freight shipments.
