If your Citi ThankYou points are not offered at Amazon checkout, having a points balance alone is not enough: your Citi card and account, the payment method selected, and the particular purchase must all qualify. Check that an eligible Citi card is saved to your Amazon account and that Shop with Points enrollment is active, confirm your Citi account is current and in good standing, then select that Citi card and check whether the order is eligible. If points still do not appear, Citi or Amazon will need to check the account or order details.
Why can’t I use my Citi ThankYou points on Amazon?
Citi ThankYou points can be used for eligible purchases through Amazon’s Shop with Points feature when you pay with an eligible, participating Citi card. The points balance is only one part of that eligibility. A card may need to be connected to the Amazon account, the Shop with Points enrollment must be active, and the selected order or item must allow points redemption.

Citi’s FAQ says that adding an eligible Citi card to an Amazon account automatically enrolls the customer in Shop with Points. Citi’s online Shop with Points terms also describe automatic enrollment or self-registration and say a customer who previously de-enrolled may register again. These descriptions mean a card on file and an active link are important checks, but they do not guarantee that points will be offered for every purchase.
There is not enough information from the checkout message alone to identify the cause. The sequence below checks the main eligibility conditions without assuming that a particular issue is responsible.

What to check before trying checkout again
1. Confirm the Citi card is saved to the same Amazon account
Sign in to the Amazon account you are using for the order and review its saved payment methods. Make sure the Citi card associated with the ThankYou account is present and that you are not shopping from a different Amazon login than the one you linked. Citi says adding an eligible card automatically enrolls it in Shop with Points; if you removed or changed the card, confirm the eligible card is saved and check whether the points option returns.
Do not assume that having a ThankYou balance, or having a Citi card saved under another Amazon account, connects that balance to the checkout you are using. If enrollment was turned off earlier, Citi’s terms describe self-registration as a way for a member to participate again. Use the enrollment or account-linking controls available through the relevant accounts; exact labels and screens can vary.
2. Check that your Citi account is current and in good standing
Citi’s online Shop with Points terms require the account to be current and in good standing. If your account status is unclear, review the Citi account directly or contact Citi. Do not infer a specific account problem from the missing points option; only Citi can confirm whether the account meets the applicable terms.

The terms available for this guidance are Citi Double Cash and ThankYou terms effective March 28, 2022. They are card-specific and not a substitute for the current terms for your own card. Check the terms that apply to your card or ask Citi to confirm eligibility.
3. Select the participating Citi card as the payment method
At checkout, choose the eligible Citi card as the payment method for the order. Citi describes using ThankYou points for eligible purchases when paying with the Citi card. If another card, gift balance, or payment arrangement is selected, switch to the Citi card where Amazon allows it and review the payment options again. Do not assume points will appear simply because the card is saved; the selected payment method matters.
4. Check the specific item and order for an available points option
Look at the payment and points choices Amazon actually displays for the item or order. Citi’s Shop with Points terms state that a participating partner may restrict points use for purchases of selected items. The terms also allow a partner to set a redemption minimum or fee, which must be disclosed at redemption when applicable.

These provisions do not establish a complete list of Amazon exclusions, nor do they show that a particular item is excluded. An item-level restriction, minimum, or fee is a possibility to check against the checkout offer—not a conclusion to draw without seeing the order’s eligibility information. If the option is missing for one purchase, that alone does not prove the card or account is ineligible for all purchases.
Why aren’t my Citi points showing up at checkout?
Use the result of the checks above to narrow down what to ask, rather than guessing at the cause:
- The card is not saved to the Amazon account: Add or update the eligible Citi card, then review the payment options again.
- The card is saved, but the enrollment or link may not be active: Check Shop with Points enrollment and use the available self-registration or linking option if you previously de-enrolled.
- The Citi account status is uncertain: Ask Citi whether the account is current and in good standing for online Shop with Points.
- The card and enrollment appear correct, but a particular order has no offer: Check that order’s displayed payment and redemption terms. A partner can restrict selected purchases, but the available terms do not provide a universal Amazon exclusion list.
- Everything appears eligible and the option is still absent: Contact Citi or Amazon with the card and order details so the relevant provider can check account-specific or transaction-specific eligibility.
These are checks, not diagnoses: a missing checkout option does not reveal which condition failed. Avoid repeatedly changing unrelated account settings or placing an order just to test redemption if you are unsure what the checkout will charge.

Compare the points value before confirming redemption
If Amazon offers points, check the value shown for that redemption before applying them. Citi says ThankYou Point values vary by card and reward, and its terms reserve the right to change point-to-dollar conversion rates. There is no single fixed Amazon value that applies to every cardholder or reward based on these terms.
Compare the displayed Amazon redemption with other options available in your ThankYou account. Consider how many points are required, the value Citi displays for the alternative, and whether you prefer points applied directly to the purchase or a different reward such as cash or a statement credit if offered for your card. The applicable choices and values can vary, so use the current figures shown to you rather than an old conversion rate or someone else’s example.

What to tell Citi or Amazon if the points still do not appear
Once you have checked the card, enrollment, account status, payment selection, and order offer, ask the provider that can inspect the missing part of the transaction. Citi can verify your ThankYou account, card participation, account standing, and enrollment status. Amazon can check the Amazon account, payment setup, and order-specific Shop with Points display.

To make the inquiry useful, have these details ready:
- The Citi card type involved and whether it is saved as a payment method on the Amazon account.
- Whether you can see an active Shop with Points enrollment or account link.
- Whether the Citi account is current, as shown in Citi’s account information.
- The item or order you were trying to buy and the payment method selected at checkout.
- The exact points or payment option shown—or the fact that no points option appeared.
Do not send full card details in an unsecured message. Use the official support channel for the account you need checked. If the issue concerns whether the Citi account qualifies, start with Citi; if it concerns the Amazon order or checkout display, Amazon can review that order. If both account eligibility and order eligibility are unclear, each provider may need to confirm its part.
