First, update your wallet from its official app-store listing or release channel, let it finish syncing, and check the transaction ID (TXID) in its sent history or exchange withdrawal record. A wallet’s “pending” label alone does not tell you whether the payment was mined, is still eligible to be mined, or has expired. Do not send it again until you know which status applies.
Zcash’s NU6.3 upgrade, also called Ironwood, activated on mainnet July 28, 2026, at block height 3,428,143. The steps below help distinguish a wallet display or sync issue from a transaction that remains live or has expired.
Start with the wallet and transaction record
- Update the wallet safely. Use the wallet’s official app-store listing or its own release channel; do not install software from a link sent by an unsolicited support contact. Zcash’s NU6.3 upgrade page advises users to update their Zcash apps and software. If a third-party wallet shows an error, Zcash’s Network Upgrade Guide directs users to contact that wallet’s developer.
- Let the wallet sync. Wait for the wallet to finish syncing before treating its status or balance as current. A lagging wallet can display stale information; the label alone does not establish the transaction’s network status.
- Find the TXID. Check the wallet’s sent history. If you initiated the payment as an exchange withdrawal, find the TXID in the exchange’s withdrawal record. Use that identifier to check whether the transaction appears as mined or remains unconfirmed. A missing explorer result alone does not prove that a transaction expired, as the third-party ZecZcash transaction troubleshooting guide notes.
The Zcash Network Upgrade Guide cautions that “If a user sends a transaction right before the upgrade, it is likely to not make it onto the chain.” That is a reason to check the transaction, not to assume every pending payment failed.
Determine whether it is mined, live, or expired
Use the TXID, the wallet’s sync state, and any displayed expiry information to separate these cases:

- Mined: The transaction appears as confirmed on the network. If the wallet still says pending or does not show the expected balance, the wallet may not yet have caught up; contact the wallet provider if syncing does not resolve the discrepancy.
- Not found in explorer data: This is inconclusive by itself. Confirm the TXID and wallet sync state, and consult the wallet or exchange that created the transaction.
- Still live: The transaction remains eligible for mining. Do not create a duplicate payment while this may be true: both the original and a second transaction could confirm.
- Expired: ZIP 203 specifies that once the transaction passes its expiry height, it cannot be mined and is removed from nodes’ mempools. Confirm that the wallet reports expiration and check its balance before following its instructions to send a replacement.
Understand transaction expiry timing
Zcash transactions include an expiry height, so a transaction does not necessarily remain eligible indefinitely. The timing depends on block spacing and the network’s protocol rules, not a fixed wall-clock timer.
| Protocol timing | Expiry default described by ZIP 203 | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Before NU7, at a 75-second target block spacing | 40 blocks | About 50 minutes |
| At NU7, incorporating ZIP 218, with a 25-second target block spacing | 120 blocks recommended | Approximately 50 minutes |
These are protocol defaults and approximate intervals, not a promise that a wallet will update its status at an exact minute. See ZIP 203 for the expiry rules.

Check whether the wallet supports the NU6.3 transaction path
NU6.3 introduced the Ironwood shielded pool. Zcash’s NU6.3 page says Orchard is now restricted and that funds exiting Orchard must pass through the turnstile into Ironwood. A wallet that is outdated or does not support the pool or transaction path involved may need an update or help from its developer. This is one possible compatibility issue, not a universal explanation for pending transactions.
Ask the wallet provider about its NU6.3 support and the specific pool or transaction path shown in your transaction details. Include the wallet version and TXID when requesting help, but never include your seed phrase or private key.

Do not use old zcashd instructions as a general fix
The zcashd node software halted at block height 3,417,100 on July 18, 2026, before NU6.3 activated, and will not support NU6.3. Zcash’s zcashd deprecation page points users who do not need the zcashd wallet to Zebra; users who depend on zcashd wallet data are directed to test migration to Zallet.
That makes older advice to run zcashd rescans unsuitable as a universal remedy for a current wallet’s pending status. Use the instructions from the wallet you actually use, and consult its developer about migration or recovery questions.

Protect your wallet while seeking help
- Never give a support contact your seed phrase or private key. A Zcash Community Forum warning dated December 16, 2024, put it plainly: “Do not share your seed phrase with anyone!”
- Ignore unsolicited messages claiming to offer wallet support or recovery, and reach the wallet provider through its official site or app.
- Share only the information needed to diagnose the transaction, such as the TXID, wallet version, and status or error message. A TXID can reveal transaction details, so consider the privacy implications before posting it publicly.
The historical forum post is useful here only as general security guidance, not as a current guide to wallet compatibility.
