What to Compare When Choosing a Crypto Card: Fees, Availability, Limits and Custody

A useful crypto-card comparison starts with your country’s eligibility rules, then adds up conversion, FX, and ATM costs and checks the limits and custody terms that apply to your account.

Compare a crypto card by the terms that determine whether you can get it and what happens when you use it: your country’s eligibility rules, the full cost of converting and spending, cash and purchase limits, and who controls the funds behind the card. A “no transaction fee” claim alone is not enough to identify the cheaper option, and there is no universal winner across jurisdictions and account tiers.

How do the published terms compare?

The examples below are tied to the named programs and regions. They are not interchangeable offers: eligibility, fee schedules, and account terms can vary by location and change over time.

Card and applicable terms Published costs and limits Important qualifications
Coinbase Card, United States No Coinbase transaction fee on purchases using local currency, USDC, or supported crypto; Coinbase says a spread applies when buying, selling, or trading crypto. Coinbase charges no ATM fee, but an ATM operator may charge one. Coinbase reports availability in US states except Hawaii. Crypto automatically converts to US dollars for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Issued by Pathward, N.A., and powered by Marqeta. Coinbase’s help page was accessed October 7, 2026. Coinbase fees and tax information.
Binance Card Global Program The fee schedule updated June 1, 2026 lists a 0.9% crypto conversion fee; it specifies a 0.1% USDC conversion fee for New Zealand and the “Rest of the card available countries” group. Its FX fee table varies by country group, listing 0%, 2%, or 3%, in addition to Mastercard fees. Annual and card issuance fees are listed as zero. Limits depend on identity-verification level and appear in the card dashboard. The program may not be available in every jurisdiction. Binance Global Program fees and limits.
Crypto.com Prepaid Visa, Europe residents The schedule dated July 31, 2026 lists monthly free ATM allowances from €200 to €1,000 by tier, then a 2% fee above the allowance. Debit- or credit-card top-ups are listed at 1%. Aggregate top-up limits are €25,000 daily and monthly and €250,000 yearly; POS purchase limits are separately listed at the same daily, monthly, and yearly amounts. These are schedule values for users with a residential address in Europe, not a worldwide offer. The schedule and limits are Crypto.com’s Europe fees and limits.
Bybit Card, EU The EU fee document lists 0.5% FX on top of Mastercard’s FX rate, 0.9% crypto conversion on top of Bybit’s One-Click Sell rate, and a 2% ATM fee after the first €100 of withdrawals per month. ATM operators may add charges. See the Bybit EU fees and spending limits.

Will the card actually be available where you live?

Start with your residence, not the logo on the card. A payment network’s merchant acceptance does not mean a provider can issue you a card. Coinbase’s US availability excludes Hawaii; Binance warns that its Global Card Program may not be offered in every jurisdiction; and Crypto.com says availability is subject to jurisdictional limitations.

Before comparing rewards or applying, check the provider’s local application flow and the agreement presented for your country. Confirm whether the offer is for a physical card, a virtual card, or both; the cited terms do not establish identical availability across all markets. Crypto.com’s card page also says its products are subject to jurisdictional limitations.

What is the real cost of spending?

Add up each layer, not just the transaction fee

For a purchase, identify the funding asset and card currency, then account for the provider’s conversion charge, the rate or spread used to sell or convert the asset, and any foreign-exchange charge. If a purchase crosses currencies, the card network’s rate and a provider FX fee may both matter. A provider can charge no transaction fee while still incorporating a spread into a crypto trade.

For cash withdrawals, check the free allowance and its reset period, the provider’s fee after that allowance, any foreign-exchange cost, and the ATM operator’s own charge. A “free ATM” statement may refer only to the provider’s fee, not every cost imposed at the machine.

Compare like with like

Use the same scenario for each card: the same purchase amount, spending currency, funding asset, and whether the transaction is domestic or cross-border. For cash, compare the same withdrawal amount and monthly withdrawal total. Record the actual rate shown before confirming a transaction where the provider displays one. Do not compare a US offer with an EU fee schedule as though both were available to the same applicant.

Coinbase’s “no Coinbase transaction fee” language applies to purchases, but its help page separately notes a spread on crypto trades. Binance and Bybit publish conversion charges, and Bybit’s EU terms explicitly layer its conversion charge on top of its One-Click Sell rate. Treat the rate and explicit charge as separate parts of the cost.

Which limits matter?

Card limits govern different actions and should not be collapsed into one headline figure. Check purchase limits, top-up or load limits, and ATM limits separately, and note whether each applies per transaction, per day, per month, or per year. Also confirm whether the reset is calendar-based or rolling if the terms specify it.

  • Purchase limits: how much you can spend at merchants, including daily, monthly, or annual caps.
  • Funding limits: how much you can load or transfer into the card arrangement, and whether limits aggregate across funding methods.
  • ATM limits: the maximum per withdrawal or period, plus the free-withdrawal allowance and any frequency restrictions.
  • Account-specific limits: whether identity verification, card tier, or account status changes the cap.

Binance directs users to their dashboard for limits tied to identity-verification level; a general fee page therefore cannot tell every applicant their personal cap. Crypto.com’s Europe schedule distinguishes top-up and POS purchase limits, even where the listed aggregate amounts match. Check the figures and categories shown for your own account rather than assuming one limit controls every use.

What does “custody” mean for a crypto card?

Ask what happens to the crypto and proceeds at each stage: is crypto sold before funds are loaded, converted when a purchase occurs, or assigned as collateral? Then identify who holds the resulting fiat or collateral, which entity issues the card, and what the local agreement says about access to funds if the provider or issuer fails.

The available product descriptions illustrate why these are separate questions. Coinbase says cryptocurrency automatically converts to US dollars for card purchases and ATM withdrawals; its cited US page names Pathward, N.A. as issuer and Marqeta as the platform powering the card. Crypto.com says cryptocurrency cannot be loaded directly onto its prepaid card and is converted into the relevant market currency for card use. Binance describes its Global Card Program as operated by Immersve Limited, with transactions against virtual-asset collateral assigned in the user’s Binance account.

Those descriptions do not establish equivalent custody, safeguarding, or insolvency protections. Do not infer account protection from a Visa or Mastercard logo, or assume the same issuer and legal arrangement applies in every country. Read the agreement for your jurisdiction and identify the contracting entities and what happens to balances or collateral if a party becomes unavailable.

Could conversion create a tax consequence?

Spending crypto can involve a disposal or conversion, which may have tax consequences depending on your country and circumstances. Coinbase’s fee-and-tax page discusses US tax treatment; that guidance should not be generalized to other jurisdictions. Check the rules where you are tax-resident and keep records of conversions and transactions if local rules require them.

Should rewards affect your choice?

Consider rewards only after the card’s eligibility, all-in costs, limits, and custody terms work for you. Compare the reward you can actually earn on eligible spending against conversion and FX costs, and check exclusions, tier requirements, and whether maintaining a tier requires staking or another commitment. Crypto.com says its benefits and rewards may change at its discretion and that card tier follows its Level Up plan; advertised maximums should not be treated as guaranteed net returns. See its card terms and plan information for the current offer applicable to your location.

A practical comparison checklist

  1. Verify eligibility: confirm your residence, identity requirements, card type, and local issuer or program terms in the application flow.
  2. Map the transaction: determine whether the card spends fiat, converts crypto before use, converts at purchase, or relies on collateral.
  3. Calculate the full cost: include provider fees, conversion rate or spread, network FX, and ATM-operator charges for the transactions you expect to make.
  4. Check each cap: record purchase, funding, and withdrawal limits, their reset periods, and any tier or verification conditions.
  5. Read the local agreement: identify who issues the card, who holds the relevant funds or collateral, and what protections and failure arrangements are actually stated.
  6. Compare rewards last: subtract costs and account for eligibility, exclusions, changing terms, and token-price volatility before treating rewards as value.
