A report published on 25 November 2025 said Sport Republic, Southampton’s majority owner, was in talks over a possible takeover of Bulgarian club Levski Sofia. It was not a report that Southampton was being sold, and it did not confirm that Levski Sofia had been acquired. The talks’ status as of 8 October 2026 is not established by the available reporting.
Which club was reportedly involved in a takeover?
The reported target was Levski Sofia, a Bulgarian club. The potential buyer named in the report was Sport Republic, the ownership group that holds a majority stake in Southampton. The report attributed the talks to the Daily Echo, but the original Daily Echo article was not available for review and no primary confirmation from Sport Republic or Levski Sofia was identified. EUCUP.com’s 25 November 2025 report therefore supports describing this as reported talks about a possible takeover—not an agreed or completed transaction.
No confirmed purchase price, stake sought, or transaction conditions were reported. The £100 million figure mentioned in the EUCUP article concerns Sport Republic’s historical initial purchase of an 80 per cent stake in Southampton; it is not a valuation or proposed price for Levski Sofia.
What is Dragan Šolak’s role at Southampton?
Southampton’s official leadership page identifies Dragan Šolak as Sport Republic’s lead investor and chairman, and as Southampton’s chairman. It says St Mary’s Football Group owns Southampton and is majority owned by Sport Republic, while Katharina Liebherr retains a minority stake.

In a club statement dated 14 January 2025, Southampton said Henrik Kraft would step down as chairman and Šolak would take the role. The statement described Šolak as a majority shareholder of the ownership group and said Kraft would remain a shareholder and a member of Sport Republic’s board.
Does this mean Southampton is being sold?
No such sale was announced in the cited report. Its subject was Sport Republic’s reported interest in Levski Sofia, not a proposed sale of Southampton. Separately, Southampton CEO Phil Parsons said on 12 May 2026 that “Dragan Solak continues to support the club financially.” That statement concerns Southampton’s funding; it does not confirm that the Levski Sofia discussions advanced. Southampton’s 7 October 2026 statement concerned an FA hearing and the club’s head coach, not an ownership change or sale.

The report dated 25 November 2025 described negotiations over a possible takeover. The available information does not establish whether the discussions later progressed, concluded, or were abandoned. Neither a completed acquisition nor an accepted bid is confirmed, so the current status should be treated as unknown rather than inferred from the original report.
