STMicroelectronics licensed RF power LDMOS technology and intellectual property from Innogration Technologies, a Suzhou-based Chinese semiconductor company. The 2018 agreement was intended to expand ST’s RF power product development and the applications it could serve; it was a business-to-business technology deal, not a consumer product launch.
What did STMicroelectronics license?
EE Times reported on February 16, 2018, that STMicroelectronics had licensed radio-frequency (RF) power technology based on laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) from Innogration Technologies. EE Times described Innogration as a semiconductor company specializing in RF power devices, modules and subsystem assemblies, headquartered in Suzhou, China. EE Times’ announcement-era report characterized Innogration as a startup and noted that founder Gordon Ma had prior experience at Freescale and Infineon. That is background reported at the time, not a current company profile.
In an announcement distributed by PR Times on March 2, 2018, ST described the arrangement as a license and cooperation agreement. The agreement concerned technology and intellectual property for LDMOS RF power applications; it was not an announcement that consumers could buy a particular chip or finished product. ST’s announcement said the collaboration would expand its coverage of the RF power market.
What is LDMOS used for?
LDMOS combines a short conduction channel with high breakdown voltage. ST described the technology as suitable for RF power amplifiers used in wireless base stations and commercial or industrial systems. RF power amplifiers increase the strength of radio-frequency signals for transmission.

Why did ST pursue the agreement?
ST said the license would broaden its LDMOS product development and extend the RF power applications it could address. EE Times also reported that the companies expected their R&D teams to work closely and co-develop products for RF power market segments. That describes the companies’ expectation when the agreement was announced; the contemporaneous sources do not verify later product launches or whether the collaboration continued.
What were the financial and other deal terms?
Specific terms were not disclosed in the announcement-era reporting. ChosunBiz reported on March 13, 2018, that the agreement’s contents had not been specified. The available sources do not establish the price, royalty structure, duration, exclusivity or detailed territorial rights, so none can be inferred. ChosunBiz’s report addressed the undisclosed terms.
