SAP’s second-quarter 2026 results show strong growth in its cloud business and a company strategy that puts AI into core business workflows. They do not prove that large organizations broadly have adopted AI, or that AI drove SAP’s growth. The clearest conclusion is that SAP is selling cloud services while making AI a more central part of its enterprise offering.
What do SAP Q2 results say about AI adoption?
SAP announced its Q2 and half-year results on July 23, 2026. The company reported growth across cloud revenue, its cloud ERP suite, total revenue and operating profit:
| Q2 2026 measure | Change reported by SAP |
|---|---|
| Current cloud backlog | €22.9 billion; up 27% year over year, or 26% at constant currencies |
| Cloud revenue | Up 22%, or 24% at constant currencies |
| Cloud ERP Suite revenue | Up 25%, or 27% at constant currencies |
| Total revenue | Up 9%, or 11% at constant currencies |
| IFRS operating profit | Up 8% |
| Non-IFRS operating profit | Up 7%, or 9% at constant currencies |
These are SAP’s figures for the quarter, not an independent measure of AI adoption. The distinction matters: current cloud backlog is contractually committed cloud revenue SAP expects to recognize over the next 12 months. It signals contracted cloud business, but SAP does not report it as an AI-adoption measure or break out the portion tied to AI contracts. SAP’s results and strategy disclosure filed with the SEC and its Q2 investor-relations materials describe the reported results.
Is SAP making AI central to its enterprise strategy?
Yes. SAP describes its Autonomous Enterprise strategy as bringing AI into business workflows and connecting it with enterprise data. Its Q2 release highlights cover features released from April 1 through June 30, 2026, including Joule Work, the SAP Autonomous Suite, SAP Business AI Platform, Joule Studio, and expanded AI governance and agent capabilities. Those are SAP’s descriptions of its products and strategy, rather than independent assessments of their adoption or impact. The company’s Q2 Business AI release highlights provide its account of the announcements.

SAP CEO Christian Klein said customers are choosing SAP for AI outcomes grounded in business processes and data. CFO Dominik Asam also described SAP’s effort to use AI in its own transformation. These statements explain how company leadership views the strategy; they do not independently establish how widely customers are using AI.
What is SAP Joule, and what do the customer examples show?
Joule is part of SAP’s AI offering. In its Q2 release highlights, SAP describes Joule-related tools and agents for tasks such as development, operations and HR. The company also reports results from named customers using AI for particular tasks:
- Bosch Digital: SAP says Joule for Developers was associated with a 20% productivity increase on routine coding and unit testing that was 15% to 20% faster.
- Aeropuertos Argentina: SAP reports that its SNOW operations agent reduced direct costs by 16% and administrative effort by 90%.
- LC Waikiki: SAP reports that an HR agent reduced process cycle times by 40% to 60%.
These are vendor-reported customer examples, tied to specific companies and tasks. They can illustrate how organizations are applying SAP tools, but they are not an independent survey, a representative adoption rate, or evidence that large companies generally have reached the same results. The figures above come from SAP’s Q2 2026 release highlights.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are large companies adopting AI?
SAP’s results and examples indicate that the company is positioning AI for enterprise workflows and that some named customers have used its tools for defined tasks. They do not establish a broad adoption trend among large companies. In particular, the reported cloud growth cannot be attributed to AI from the figures SAP published: the company did not isolate AI-related contracts or show that AI caused its revenue growth.
For a reader trying to judge adoption, the evidence here supports a narrower statement: AI is becoming central to SAP’s enterprise strategy, and SAP describes specific customer deployments. It does not substantiate the stronger claim that large organizations as a group are firmly on the path to AI.
