On eBay, “New other (see details)” generally means an item is new and unused, but it may be missing its original packaging, have packaging that is unsealed, or be a factory second or have defects. The label does not tell you which of those possibilities applies to a particular item. Read that listing’s description and inspect its photos and included-item details before you buy.
What does “New other (see details)” mean?
For Motors: Parts & Accessories, eBay defines the condition as a new, unused item with no signs of wear. The original packaging may be missing or unsealed, and the item may be a factory second or a new item with defects. eBay directs buyers to the seller’s listing for full details and a description of imperfections. eBay’s category condition guidance gives this wording for that category.
That is a broad condition classification, not a complete description of the item. By itself, the label does not tell you whether the packaging is open or absent, what defect or imperfection exists, or which accessories and components are included.
Does “New other” mean the item is unused?
In eBay’s Motors: Parts & Accessories definition, yes: the item is new and unused, with no signs of wear. But condition labels and their precise definitions vary by category, so do not assume that one category’s wording applies identically to every kind of product. Consult the condition guidance for the item’s category when the distinction matters. eBay’s developer condition reference also notes that displayed names and supported conditions vary among categories.

How is it different from “New” or “Refurbished”?
The difference is mainly what the label allows about packaging, defects, and prior restoration. In eBay’s Motors: Parts & Accessories definitions, standard “New” describes a brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging where applicable. “New other” allows packaging to be missing or unsealed and allows a factory second or defects. Refurbished is a separate condition description for an item restored to working order; “New other” alone does not mean refurbished.

What to check in the individual listing
- Read the full description and seller notes. Look for the specific packaging status and any stated imperfections; the condition label does not identify which exception applies.
- Inspect the photos. Check for visible damage, packaging condition, and missing pieces. Photos can help, but they may not reveal every issue.
- Confirm what is included. Check whether required accessories or components are listed, rather than assuming they come with the item because it is marked “New other.”
- Ask the seller about material uncertainties. If a detail could affect whether the item works for you and the listing does not resolve it, ask before purchasing.
- Review shipping and return terms. Those terms belong to the individual listing and cannot be inferred from its condition label.
The same label can appear on unrelated products, so the listing context matters. For example, eBay listings for a Wii Balance Board bundle and a KYB shock absorber both use “New other (see details),” but what a buyer needs to verify depends on the specific item.

For sellers and developers, eBay’s condition reference maps “New other (see details)” to condition ID 1500 and the inventory API enum NEW_OTHER. That technical mapping is not a universal buyer-facing promise: eBay says condition names and supported options can vary by category.
