What did Neil Lennon say about James Bord?
In a December 29, 2025 interview with The Courier, Lennon said he was enjoying the challenge at Dunfermline and praised Bord’s approach as an owner:
“I’ve got a great owner. That’s half the battle when you’re a manager. I’ve got a really positive, generous owner who loves the club.”
Lennon added: “He’s a forward thinker and I like working with him. As a manager, as a coach, they’re hard to find.” His comments were about his own working relationship with Bord at Dunfermline.

How did Lennon describe their working relationship?
Lennon said recruitment involved input from both football staff and the owners. In a January 1, 2026 report, he explained: “We recommend players, they recommend players,” and said they then came to an agreement. He described it as a process “for the benefit of the club going forward” and “a marriage together,” while acknowledging it was “not perfect by any means.”
Lennon also said Dunfermline’s squad and results had improved and that the club was “moving in the right direction.” These are Lennon’s assessments of Dunfermline, not a forecast of how a Wednesday takeover would have worked. The Courier’s recruitment report provides the context.

What did Lennon report about Bord’s preferred style of play?
Lennon recounted Bord’s reaction to Dunfermline’s 3–2 defeat to Ayr United, a match in which Dunfermline came back from three goals behind. Lennon said Bord called it “entertainment” and reported him saying he would rather lose that way than 1–0. Lennon characterized Bord as wanting teams to “play on the front foot.”
This was Lennon’s account of a post-match conversation, not a direct interview with Bord or an independently recorded statement by him. It should be read as Lennon’s description of Bord’s reported preference at Dunfermline.

Did Bord become Sheffield Wednesday’s owner?
No. Bord’s consortium was named Sheffield Wednesday’s preferred bidder on December 24, 2025, but it withdrew on February 25, 2026. Sheffield Wednesday subsequently transferred to new ownership under Arise Capital Partners, confirmed by the English Football League on May 2, 2026.

The consortium’s statement, quoted in the BBC Radio Sheffield report, said: “The figure we offered is significantly higher than that justified by the findings of a lengthy due diligence process.”

What do Lennon’s remarks establish about a possible Wednesday takeover?
They establish that Lennon spoke favorably about working with Bord at Dunfermline and described a collaborative approach to recruitment there. They do not establish how Bord would have run Sheffield Wednesday, and Lennon was not quoted directly assessing Bord as a prospective Wednesday owner. His praise should not be treated as an endorsement of the withdrawn bid.
