To reach a British Airways status tier today you need 3,500 tier points for Bronze, 7,500 for Silver or 20,000 for Gold, counted over a collection year that runs 1 April to 31 March. Bronze and Silver also have a flight-count route. The programme formerly called the Executive Club was renamed The British Airways Club with effect from 1 April 2025, and the rules below reflect the current scheme, including the earning changes that began on 1 April 2026.
The thresholds
British Airways’ official tier-points page sets out the following requirements for each tier within a collection year.

The page does not give a publication date for these figures, so check the live tier-points page or your account before planning a specific year. Tier points reset at the end of each collection year. Your current balance is therefore not the same as your lifetime total, and it is the current balance that determines your tier.
How tier points are earned
Cash fares on British Airways flights
On eligible British Airways flights you earn one tier point for each £1 of eligible spend. Eligible spend covers the fare and carrier-imposed charges. Government and airport taxes and fees do not count. Points go to the member who actually travels, not to whoever paid for the ticket.

Per-flight bonuses from 1 April 2026
From 1 April 2026, eligible flights also earn per-flight tier points based on marketing carrier, haul, cabin and fare type. The examples BA gives for British Airways-marketed flights are below.

Flexible fares can earn more than these examples. Basic Economy fares do not receive the extra flight points, and reward flights earn no flight tier points at all. The exact total for your own itinerary is shown as an estimate in the booking flow and in Manage My Booking, so use that figure rather than working backwards from the examples.

Seats, bags and sustainable aviation fuel
Eligible seat, bag and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) add-ons earn two tier points per £1 for qualifying use from 1 April 2026. SAF contributions are capped at 2,000 tier points per membership year. Add-ons are only worth buying if you would pay for them anyway; buying extras purely to chase a tier is seldom good value.
Partner flights
Partner earning works differently depending on the flight. Eligible flights marketed by American Airlines or Iberia, like those marketed by British Airways, earn on eligible spend. Other partner flights may instead earn from cabin, booking class and a percentage of miles flown, and the details vary. Ticket type, marketing carrier, fare, point of sale and booking channel can all change the result, so use BA’s flight calculator for a specific partner itinerary.

BA Holidays packages
Eligible British Airways Holidays Flight + Hotel and Flight + Car packages earn one tier point per £1 of eligible package spend. Those points are divided evenly among eligible passengers who have added their Club membership number to the booking, and they are credited after travel. From 1 April 2026, qualifying flight sectors within a package can also earn the cabin-based extra points described above. Because the points are shared, a family booking gives each passenger a smaller share, so judge the package on its price and value first.
What each tier includes
The table summarises the benefits listed on BA’s overview page. “Not listed” means the overview does not mention that benefit for the tier. It does not confirm that the benefit is absent.

- Award timing: a tier is awarded once the threshold is reached, although BA says it can take up to 48 hours to appear.
- Duration: a tier generally lasts for the rest of the current membership year and the next membership year, unless you reach a higher tier.
- Two separate dates: the tier-points page describes a membership year ending 30 April, which is distinct from the 31 March reset of the collection year. Use your account for your own expiry date.
- Posting delays: flight points can take up to three days to post, partner-flight points up to seven days, and holiday points up to 14 days after the trip.
- Booking requirements: your Club membership number must be on the booking, and the name and date of birth must match your travel documents.
Steps to qualify
- Confirm the threshold on BA’s tier-points page and your current balance in your account. For the collection year now underway, 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, the balance counts only points earned within those dates.
- Add your Club membership number when you book, not afterwards.
- Check the tier-point estimate in the booking flow or in Manage My Booking before you pay. For partner flights or unusual fares, use BA’s flight calculator.
- Prefer fares that earn the bonuses. Flexible fares earn more under the 2026 rules, while Basic Economy and reward flights do not get the extra flight points.
- Check your balance once the posting windows above have passed, and correct any missing points with BA before the collection year closes.
Is the spend worth it?
Status is a means to the benefits, not a saving in its own right. Work through these checks before you book for points.

- Measure the gap. Work out how many points you are short and whether a single trip or package would close it.
- Compare the fare, not the points. Set the fare against the cheapest alternative on the same route, remembering that taxes and fees do not count toward points.
- Do not look for a shortcut. BA’s Club overview states, “Tier points can’t be bought or shared.” The routes are the eligible flight, add-on and package spend described above.
- Match the benefits to your travel. If you rarely use lounges or check bags, the Silver or Gold benefits may not justify the spend.
Card-based routes
An official BA regional page referenced a British Airways American Express Premium Plus cardmember tier-point offer with enrolment closing on 25 January 2026. That offer has ended. No replacement card offer appears on the official pages covered here, so check the card issuer’s current terms before relying on a card route to reach a tier.
