Walmart also lists an eligibility-based offer of $49 per year or $6.47 per month for qualifying college students and government assistance recipients. Members can get free shipping with no order minimum on eligible Walmart.com purchases. The item must be marked eligible; qualifying products are generally sold or shipped by Walmart, though some Marketplace Retailer items may qualify. Product, seller, destination, inventory, shipping speed and location-related surcharges can affect eligibility or cost. Fuel savings
Walmart lists a 10¢-per-gallon discount at participating Walmart, Exxon, Mobil and Murphy stations, plus member prices at Sam’s Club fuel centers. One included streaming service at a time
Members can choose an ad-supported Paramount+ Essential or Peacock Premium plan at no additional membership charge. Walmart’s Sept. 1, 2025 announcement said members could switch services every 90 days; separate registration is required. The comparison reflects the benefits described by Kiplinger and the companies; it is not a claim that one membership is better for every household. Walmart+ may fit someone who regularly shops at Walmart and can use nearby store delivery or participating fuel stations. Prime may fit someone who values Amazon’s broader shopping and digital entertainment bundle or has useful grocery partners in their area. - Check your address first. See whether local-store delivery, pharmacy delivery and the other benefits you care about are available where you live.
- Review your shopping habits. Count only eligible Walmart.com orders or local-store deliveries you expect to make; a membership does not make every item or delivery free.
- Check your usual fuel stops. Verify that the specific stations you visit participate instead of assuming every station under a listed brand qualifies.
- Value the streaming choice realistically. Include it only if you want one of the included ad-supported plans, and remember the 90-day switching interval.
- Compare the alternatives and total cost. Check current recurring prices, any eligibility-based offer, delivery fees and other charges against the benefits you will actually use.
Walmart’s membership offer page also presents an estimated average annual savings figure. Its footnote says the estimate applies to annual members who have been members for at least one year, excludes the $98 membership fee and is calculated against non-member prices or fees.
