Urban Outraged is a satirical campaign website launched by PETA on November 29, 2021—not a conventional online store selling real jackets, boots, skirts, or bags. Its mock fashion displays use human-like faces, teeth, and blood imagery to challenge shoppers over animal-derived materials and call attention to Urban Outfitters, Inc.
What the Urban Outraged website shows
PETA introduced Urban Outraged as a parody storefront. Its mock jackets, boots, skirts, and bags initially resemble leather goods, then reveal human-like details on closer inspection. The contrast is the campaign’s central device: encourage viewers to imagine the individual animal behind a product made from skin.
The site’s product-like presentation is part of the satire. It should not be mistaken for a retailer offering those items for purchase.
Why PETA launched the campaign
PETA’s November 2021 launch announcement identified Urban Outfitters, Inc. as the campaign’s target and said the project aimed to challenge the use of animal-derived materials in fashion. Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman framed the message this way: “A cow’s skin belongs to her, and she feels fear and pain in a slaughterhouse every bit as much as you or I would.”

Reiman also described the campaign’s intended effect: “PETA’s Urban Outraged challenges shoppers to see the individual behind every bit of animal skin on store racks and shelves.” These are PETA’s advocacy statements, not an independent assessment of the companies or their products.
Which brands and materials are in the campaign’s sights
PETA’s current action page names Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People. It lists wool, cashmere, mohair, leather, down, silk, and alpaca fleece among materials it opposes the brands selling. Those descriptions reflect PETA’s position; they should not be read as neutral findings about every product or the companies’ full assortments.

How the campaign continued beyond the website
PETA’s FY2022 financial statement says the organization placed over 400 ads in more than 10 cities as part of the campaign. This is PETA’s organizational report of its advertising activity, not an independent measure of audience reach or impact.
In June 2023, PETA announced a fashion-show event outside an Urban Outfitters store in Miami featuring clothing from Urban Outraged. The event shows the campaign extended into an in-person demonstration; it does not establish a change in company policy or public opinion.
