It sold for AED 55 million at a charity auction in Dubai on April 8, 2023. Guinness World Records lists the sale as the record; its page converts the price to US$14,975,769, or about $15 million.
How much did the P-7 plate sell for?
P-7 sold for AED 55 million at the Most Noble Numbers charity auction, conducted by Emirates Auction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Guinness World Records records the sale price as AED 55 million and gives a converted equivalent of US$14,975,769. Emirates Auction rounded the dollar figure to $15 million in its announcement.
Guinness World Records’ “Most expensive car registration” record page identifies P-7 as a car license plate number and dates the sale to April 8, 2023. Emirates Auction’s April 9, 2023 announcement confirms the event and its rounded dollar headline.
Was the sale price higher than the previous record?
Emirates Auction said P-7 surpassed the record associated with Abu Dhabi plate 5-1, which the organizer says sold for $14 million in 2008. That historical comparison is the auction house’s account; the cited record material does not independently audit the earlier sale.

What was the charity connection?
The auction was held to raise money for charity. Emirates Auction said the event raised $26.6 million in total for the 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign. That figure describes the auction’s overall stated fundraising, not the amount attributable to the P-7 bid alone. The available statements describe the intended destination of funds; they do not establish final disbursement or how many meals the plate sale funded.

What is not established about the buyer or the plate?
The cited record and auction announcements do not identify the winning bidder or establish who owns P-7 now. They also do not detail the precise legal registration rights, transfer conditions, or restrictions attached to the winning bid. The sale establishes the record price, but it does not by itself explain the buyer’s motivation or prove that the registration is an investment likely to appreciate.

Does this prove the plate costs more than most people earn in a lifetime?
No. AED 55 million is the documented sale price, but the claim that it exceeds what “most people” earn over a lifetime requires a defined population, earnings measure, and time period. The record and auction sources provide no such comparison, so that broader claim cannot be verified from the sale figures alone.
