Which bank is involved depends on the Cash App service; there is no single bank behind every Cash App feature.
Which banks does Cash App use?
Cash App’s U.S. Terms of Service list three partner banks: Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Sutton Bank, and The Bancorp Bank, N.A. The terms say Cash App may add or remove a bank without notice, so the list can change. These are U.S.-specific terms and should not be taken as a description of Cash App services in other countries.

The names do not mean that every customer’s money is held at all three banks, or that customers can choose which bank handles a particular service. Cash App describes relationships tied to different services, including holding eligible funds and issuing cards.
Is Cash App itself a bank?
No. Cash App’s U.S. Terms of Service state: “Cash App is a financial services platform, and not an FDIC-insured bank.” The distinction matters: a partner bank may hold eligible funds, but that does not make Cash App a bank or make every Cash App balance an insured bank deposit.

Which bank issues the Cash App Card?
Card issuance is a narrower relationship than Cash App’s broader list of partner banks. Cash App says Sutton Bank issues Cash App prepaid cards. Its terms also say Cash App Visa Debit Flex Cards may be issued by Sutton Bank and The Bancorp Bank, N.A. The issuer depends on the card product; this does not identify which bank holds a particular customer’s eligible balance.
Are Cash App balances FDIC-insured?
Some eligible funds may receive FDIC pass-through insurance through the partner bank holding them, subject to Cash App’s terms and applicable requirements. Cash App’s terms describe coverage of up to $250,000 per customer when deposits are aggregated with other deposits held in the same legal capacity at the relevant bank. This is a limit, not a promise that every Cash App balance is insured.

- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Coverage depends on eligibility, receipt of funds by the partner bank, aggregation with the customer’s other deposits at that bank in the same legal capacity, and other terms. Cash App says funds above the applicable limit could be lost if the bank fails. Check the current U.S. Terms of Service for the conditions that apply to the specific service and balance.
Balances that are not covered as deposits under these terms
Cash App’s pass-through insurance provisions do not treat pending balances, Bitcoin, or investing holdings as insured bank deposits. Do not assume that money shown in the app is covered simply because Cash App has bank partners.

Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
How to tell which bank relationship matters
- For Cash App generally: It is a financial services platform, not a bank.
- For eligible funds: The relevant partner bank is the one holding the funds, and pass-through insurance is conditional.
- For a card: The issuer depends on whether it is a prepaid Cash App Card or a Visa Debit Flex Card.
Cash App’s official explainer frames the related questions as “What bank does Cash App use?” and “Is Cash App a bank?” Its bank information page and current U.S. terms are the appropriate places to check for updated partner and product details.
