ANI alleged that the video misrepresented its communications and was defamatory and disparaging. At an initial hearing, the court recorded Mangal’s undertaking to edit and repost the video and ordered specified posts on X removed. Those interim steps did not decide whether either side’s allegations were true.
What ANI says the case is about
ANI filed CS(COMM) 573/2025 in the Delhi High Court on May 28, 2025, according to a later court order. The suit concerned Mangal’s video “Dear ANI,” published May 25, and sought relief including a permanent injunction concerning trademark infringement and disparagement. LiveLaw’s May 28 report described ANI’s allegations: that the video misrepresented its communications, defamed and disparaged the agency, and misused its trademarks. ANI sought removal of the video and restrictions on further allegedly false or defamatory content.
What Mangal alleged in the video
The transcript reproduced in the court’s May 29 order records Mangal’s claims that ANI issued copyright strikes over brief excerpts and that discussions about removing strikes or licensing ANI footage involved substantial payments. It also includes his account of emails and a phone conversation. These are Mangal’s allegations as presented in the video; the transcript’s inclusion in a court order does not establish that they are true. ANI disputed his characterization of its communications.
What the court ordered on May 29, 2025
At the initial hearing, the Delhi High Court issued summons and recorded Mangal’s undertaking to place the video in private mode, remove specified objectionable content, show the complete May 22 email without blurring, and then repost an edited version publicly. The court also directed X to remove specified posts. The order and its directions are available in the May 29 order.
#1 Best Overall
The order said, “In my prima facie view, the aforesaid tweets/posts are disparaging and defamatory in nature.” That observation addressed specified X posts at an interim stage. It was not a final ruling that ANI had proved its case against Mangal or that the allegations in the video were false.
How the related copyright and trademark suit fits in
ANI filed a separate case, CS(COMM) 447/2025, in Patiala House Courts on June 2, 2025. In a July 25 order, the Delhi High Court directed that case be transferred and tried with CS(COMM) 573/2025. The transfer order describes the related suit as alleging copyright and trademark infringement across ten videos, six of which overlapped with videos implicated in the Delhi High Court case. The July 25 transfer order concerns case management; it does not resolve the underlying allegations.
