The 2026 game runs October 6 through November 1, while supplies last. No purchase is necessary, and buying food does not improve your odds. The rules also provide a mail-in route for a free game piece.
How to play the 2026 U.S. game
The 2026 promotion is sponsored by McDonald’s USA, LLC. It is for eligible U.S. residents, not a description of Monopoly promotions in other countries or years. You need to be at least 18 on the day you participate, live in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C., and meet the other eligibility requirements in the official 2026 rules.
- Download or update the McDonald’s app. Register an account, opt in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards, and register for the game. The rules allow one app account and one game registration per person.
- Get a game piece with an eligible item at a participating U.S. McDonald’s while specially marked packaging lasts. Eligible items listed in the rules include large hot McCafé beverages, large soft drinks and cold drinks, large fries, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, a Big Mac, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, 4-piece McCrispy Strips, hash browns, biscuit sandwiches (excluding limited-time sandwiches), and McMuffin sandwiches. Check for marked packaging; seasonal and limited-time items are excluded even if they otherwise fit a category.
- For the bonus Chance Card play tied to a qualifying order, opt in and register before ordering. Use Mobile Order & Pay or associate your Rewards code with the purchase. The rules allow one bonus play per eligible menu item.
- Peel the piece and scan its code in the game section of the app, or enter it manually. Keep the physical piece: McDonald’s may request it to verify a prize.
- If the code awards a Chance Card play, start it in the app. The daily limit is eight code entries and eight Chance Card plays, measured in Eastern Time.
App registration, Rewards opt-in, and game registration are required to participate and claim prizes. Use an email address you can access, since winners may need to verify eligibility or submit documents.
How to get a free game piece
The rules state that no purchase is necessary to play or win, and that a purchase will not improve your chances. The free route is by mail—not an online free-code form. Under the 2026 rules, send one request per outer envelope in a postage-paid, non-metered outer envelope. Include one self-addressed envelope with sufficient non-metered return postage; Vermont residents may omit the return postage. Each compliant request receives one game piece while supplies last, which also provides one Chance Card play when entered.

What can a game piece award?
A scanned piece can resolve in four ways. A prize is not necessarily cash: read the applicable claim and redemption terms before treating an advertised value as money you will receive.

Collect to Win examples in the rules include a Hilton resort getaway, a Polaris vehicle, $100,000 cash, a Universal Orlando trip, a Kennedy Space Center experience, a 2027 Jeep Cherokee, a Circle K gift card, and a Carnival cruise package. These prizes have their own terms. For example, the $1 million cash prize is paid as $50,000 per year for 20 years without interest. Winners are responsible for applicable taxes and costs not expressly included in a prize.

What are the odds—and what does “win” mean?
McDonald’s USA, LLC planned approximately 640,591,900 game pieces for distribution in 2026 and listed approximately 122,458,639 food prizes. Its rules give two different starting descriptions of broad instant-win odds: about 1 in 5.23 for winning a food prize, and 1 in 5 for winning an instant-win prize, mostly food. These are overall starting odds, not guarantees for an individual and not the odds of a particular high-value prize. Counts decline as prizes are claimed, so odds change during the promotion.

Chance Card outcomes are time-seeded: a winning play receives the prize seeded for that start time or an earlier-seeded prize that remains unawarded. The rules do not give players a reliable way to predict a winning time. Neither buying an eligible item nor watching the app animation changes the stated mechanics, so claims of a winning “hack” are not supported by the rules.

The rules allow some pieces remaining on packaging to be distributed after the main game period until supplies run out or November 22, whichever comes first. Pieces received after November 1 may still be entered by the claim deadline.

Protect your chance to claim a prize
- Keep each physical piece after scanning in case it is needed for verification.
- Use only your own account; the rules limit participation to one account and one registration per person and prohibit account sharing.
- Watch for requests to verify identity or eligibility, provide prize documents, or submit game pieces.
- Review the prize’s conditions, redemption limits, travel terms, and tax responsibilities instead of assuming its advertised approximate retail value is a cash payout.
