“JANET” is an unofficial name used for U.S. Air Force personnel flights associated in public reporting with secure government test facilities. It is not a publicly bookable airline: the sources reviewed document no tickets, tours, or visitor access. A 2023 draft Air Force work statement describes the aircraft and broad operating requirements, but it does not establish a current schedule, complete destination list, or present-day operator.
What is Janet Airlines?
JANET is a nickname used in aviation enthusiast accounts for a personnel airlift operation based in Las Vegas. The Department of the Air Force procurement notice describes an airlift support requirement but does not use the JANET nickname. That distinction matters: government documents support the existence and broad scope of the requirement, while the name and some route descriptions come from secondary reporting.
Public reporting associates the red-striped aircraft seen at Las Vegas with transportation to secure government facilities. The public record reviewed does not establish the details of any classified missions, and there is no basis here to treat speculation about them as fact.
Does JANET fly to Area 51?
Secondary aviation references identify Area 51, also known as Groom Lake, and the Tonopah Test Range among destinations associated with JANET flights. The 2023 draft work statement describes transportation to and from four locations within an approximate 300-mile radius, but the cited passage does not name them. The Air Force procurement notice reviewed does not provide a route-by-route schedule. Therefore, Area 51 and Tonopah are reported associations, not a complete or officially confirmed current destination list.

Can the public fly on JANET?
The service is described as personnel airlift, not a consumer airline. The sources reviewed document no public ticket sales, tours, or visitor access to JANET flights or the secure destinations. They also do not set out the exact access rules at each destination, so claims about who may travel or what passengers may disclose should not be inferred from the nickname or aircraft sightings.
What aircraft does JANET use?
A Department of the Air Force draft performance work statement dated November 7, 2023 specifies operations and maintenance for six government-furnished Boeing 737-600 aircraft, plus limited support for five government-owned and operated Beechcraft King Air aircraft. It describes the aircraft as serving a daily requirement. Because this is a reproduced draft document, it describes a planned requirement at that time—not a verified current fleet list or schedule.

- Toy airplane for kids: This must-have for the young aviator in your life includes a single toy plane with rolling wheels and authentic livery
- Size: Plane model measures approximately 5.75 inches in length with a 5- inch wingspan, perfectly sized for easy display and handling

Enthusiast references have also described a white aircraft livery with a red stripe. That visual description is secondary reporting, not an inventory record. A vJANET page gives a count of six 737-600s as of 2015; that dated figure should not be treated as confirmation of the present fleet.
How large is the airlift requirement?
The 2023 draft work statement says the requirement can reach 190 sorties per week, with rare surges to 200 after coordination. It also says that, “in recent history,” the government required approximately 9,000 sorties to transport up to 490,000 passengers annually in one standard schedule. These are figures stated as planning and historical context in the draft, not independently verified current activity or passenger totals.

The draft calls the operation a “No-fail” mission. That phrase appears in the reproduced Department of the Air Force draft performance work statement dated November 7, 2023; it is not a public statement attributed to a named official.

The Department of the Air Force notice says the existing contract, FA4890-20-C-0013, was awarded to Advanced Concepts Enterprises, Inc. on July 23, 2020. The notice projected a new award around December 1, 2025, with phase-in beginning February 1, 2026. Those dates were forecasts in a 2024 procurement notice, not confirmation that an award or phase-in occurred. The notice reviewed does not establish the procurement’s outcome or the current operator.
