Hidden is an adult-creator platform launched by Stella Barey in April 2025. It was designed to address two financial pressures creators have described on OnlyFans: having to bring in their own audience and relying on time-intensive custom videos or direct messages to earn. Its pitch centers on a discovery feed and a store for existing content. WIRED described Hidden as owned and operated by sex workers, but that alone does not establish that it is a cooperative.
What is the “anti-OnlyFans” platform?
Hidden is the platform behind the “anti-OnlyFans” framing. The Guardian reported that it launched on April 12, 2025; WIRED described it as a platform owned and operated by sex workers. The phrase describes a response to aspects of the OnlyFans business model, not a claim that Hidden rejects every feature or operates in a wholly different market. Barey told WIRED that she had made most of her money on OnlyFans and that the services operate in the same realm.
Barey told WIRED that creators have to drive traffic to OnlyFans themselves, a burden she said was contributing to burnout. Creator Leila Lewis similarly told The Guardian, “Everyone is getting sick of the OnlyFans model. We’re exhausted and burnt out.” Those are creator perspectives, not evidence that every adult creator has the same experience or wants the same alternative.
How Hidden is reported to differ from OnlyFans
The distinction in the 2025 reporting is less about a single feature than about how creators find audiences and earn from their work. The table summarizes what WIRED and The Guardian reported; these are dated descriptions, not guarantees of current features or contract terms.

Why discovery and reusable content matter to earnings
A creator who must bring every potential subscriber from social media to a paid page is doing audience development as well as making content. Hidden’s reported For You feed is intended to let audiences move between creators and to make older videos discoverable. Barey described the idea to WIRED as an ecosystem in which fans brought by one creator can circulate to others.
The store addresses a different part of the work equation. A custom video or a sustained private-message exchange takes time for a particular customer. Selling an already-made clip or a pay-per-view post may give a creator another way to earn from content that has already been produced. It does not eliminate the time needed to make content, build an audience, or manage a business; the reporting describes a feature and its intended role, not a measured income outcome.

How much does Hidden take?
WIRED and The Guardian reported in 2025 that Hidden took 18% of creators’ earnings, compared with 20% for OnlyFans. Treat both figures as reported terms from those articles, not independently verified current rates or a promise about an individual creator’s contract. Platform fees are only one part of a creator’s finances: the amount retained also depends on earnings, applicable taxes, payment processing and other costs.
WIRED also reported that Hidden offered chargeback protection up to $2,500. That is a reported limit in WIRED’s November 2025 coverage, not an assurance that every disputed payment or loss is covered. A creator considering the service should check its current terms for the fee basis, payout rules, eligibility, and the exact scope and limits of any protection.

Does sex-worker ownership make Hidden a cooperative?
Not necessarily. “Owned and operated by sex workers,” as WIRED described Hidden, is a meaningful ownership claim, but cooperative status requires more specific evidence about who owns the enterprise and how decisions are made. A 2026 scholarly article by Sebastiaan Gorissen, quoting the International Cooperative Alliance’s definition, describes a cooperative as an enterprise that is jointly owned and democratically controlled by its members. A platform can promise worker benefits or be creator-friendly without meeting that standard.
A 2021 first-person account in Logic Magazine about V Union and PeepMe shows why the distinction matters. Its authors described plans for worker ownership, democratic power, a share of profits, 90% of generated revenue for workers, and 10% of profits for sex-worker-led community organizations. They also recounted losing a bank account, development teams withdrawing over legal concerns, and tensions between using white-label technology and protecting security and trust. Those were the authors’ stated plans and experiences at publication; they do not establish the present status or finalized terms of those services.

- Fees and payouts: Confirm what percentage is deducted, what earnings it applies to, payout timing, and any other charges in the current terms.
- Discovery: Find out whether the feed is available to all creators, how content becomes eligible for recommendation, and whether the platform explains how distribution works.
- Content sales: Check what formats can be sold, whether posts can be resold, and what control creators retain over pricing and access.
- Payment disputes: Read the eligibility rules, exclusions, and limits for chargebacks or other protections rather than treating a reported maximum as universal coverage.
- Ownership and governance: If worker ownership is important, look for clear information about equity, member rights, voting, and control—not just the platform’s branding.
