“Chime Stride” usually means a Chime account whose banking services are provided by Stride Bank, N.A. Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank; Stride is one of the banks that supports some Chime accounts. Chime also works with The Bancorp Bank, N.A., so the Stride designation does not apply to every Chime member.

As of October 8, 2026, Chime’s announced acquisition of Stride Bank is still pending. Chime says members do not need to take action now and that accounts and access continue to work as usual.

What does “Chime Stride” mean?

It is not the name of a separate Chime product. The phrase refers to the relationship between Chime’s financial technology service and Stride Bank, N.A., which provides banking services for some Chime accounts. Chime supplies the app and member experience; partner banks provide the banking infrastructure.

Chime identifies both Stride Bank, N.A. and The Bancorp Bank, N.A. as partner banks. Your account’s disclosures identify the bank associated with your account, so do not assume that every Chime account is provided through Stride. See Chime’s account agreement and its banking disclosures.

Why is Chime acquiring Stride Bank?

On September 8, 2026, Chime announced a definitive agreement to acquire Stride Bank. The proposed purchase price is $590 million in cash, subject to adjustments under the agreement. Chime also said it expects more than $100 million in net synergies; that is a company projection, not a result already achieved.

Under the announced plan, after the transaction closes Stride would become Chime Bank, N.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chime. Chime expects closing in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. The agreement and planned name change do not mean the transaction has already closed. Read Chime’s September 8, 2026 announcement for its description of the deal.

What does this mean for existing Chime members?

Chime’s current acquisition FAQ says no action is required while the deal is pending. It says accounts, cards, direct deposits, and account access continue to work as usual, and that Chime will give advance notice if account information ever needs to change. This is Chime’s guidance as of October 8, 2026; check its acquisition FAQ for any later update.

Will my account or routing number change?

Chime says nothing is changing today. Its FAQ does not announce an account or routing number change; it says the company will provide advance notice if account information needs to change in the future. The proposed post-close ownership structure is not itself a notice that a member’s account details are changing now.

My Chime app says my bank is The Bancorp Bank. What does this mean for me?

It means your account’s banking relationship is associated with The Bancorp Bank rather than Stride Bank. Chime uses both banks, and the announced Stride transaction does not establish that every Chime member’s bank designation or account terms will change. Follow the disclosures for your own account and any direct notice from Chime.

How does FDIC deposit insurance apply?

Chime says eligible deposits are held at FDIC-insured banks and may be insured up to applicable limits. Chime itself is not an FDIC-insured bank. Deposit insurance is not unconditional: pass-through coverage depends on applicable requirements being met, and eligibility and limits depend on the circumstances. Review the disclosures associated with your account rather than treating the Chime name or Stride designation alone as a guarantee that every balance is insured.

Is Chime Stride a card or account type?

No. “Chime Stride” describes a bank relationship, not a separate card or account product. Chime Credit Builder is a secured Visa credit card that is no longer available to new members; existing account holders may continue to use it. Chime also describes Chime Card as its current secured card product. Those card offerings are distinct from the bank that provides services for a Chime account.
